Unfortunately no. Most lakes here are still really high with boat ramps closed and more rain on the way. I could still launch my yak but it would freak my wife out. Went last week to a smaller lake managed by the Corp and only caught one LM. I was hoping to go on the river this week but outfitters are closed due to heavy rains last week and high water.

 

That's about how it is here. Bummer.

 

Yeah, but I finished that book on my end table and a few more lol.

A friend and I were out on a boat on this small lake. I think I have mentioned it before. Dixon lake, it's in San Diego/ocean side area. There was a trout tournament and my buddy had entered. He wanted to go for a boat, since he is a veteran and the boat was only 20 bucks for all day. I said sure why not, maybe my luck will change. I have never caught a fish from a boat.
We had been out for a few hours in this metal dingy that only has a battery operated trolling motor.
I have not caught anything and neither had he. We had changed spots a few times and still nothing at hour 3. We decide to go over to where we were catching them from the shore. Anchored off, threw a bait line in and using a second rod for a lure/jig/fly.
He casts and gets a hit, reels it in and it's a decent 2lb trout. I get excited cause we found some that were hungry. I cast and cast and cast, nothing. He doesnt have much luck either, but all of a sudden his bait pole gets hit like a ton of bricks. He jumps for it and starts reeling. Slowly it is coming toward the boat and he can hardly contain himself. I has moby fucking dick on the end of this line. He keeps reeling and reeling then it just stops. He is reeling, but no line is coming in only pulling and no line really going out. Then the fish takes off and ton of line with it. He starts the struggle all over again. Finally he gets it just under the boat, combination of reeling and chasing it with the boat. We are out in the middle of the cove now and all you can see is long green grass and his line disappearing into it. We have been at this about 30 minutes trying to land this thing. He still thinks it's a 10lb trout and is not giving up. So I pull the anchor up and start dropping it and pulling back up into that grass figuring I can loosen it up some. I get the second drop and he starts yelling "dont do that, you'll break my line, it's only 2lb test!". By the 4th drop and retrieve that did the trick. We are now on 1 hour of trying to get this damn thing top side. He reels it up but it's still got some fight left. Another few minutes a d he gets it under control and brings it up. barely a 2lb catfish
