Is my understanding of the following statement correct? If I buy the tune now, I am able to purchase the supercharger kit minus the price of the tune I already bought.

So, here's where I am. I prefer superchargers to turbos in certain situations. That sudden surge of power that you get from a turbo is not always a good thing. Think about off road in technical places or in the middle of a steep climb. In those situations, I want smooth, controlable power. If my truck is empty and on the street, I'll take a turbo any day. Just downshift, nail it and whee!

Regardless, What I'm after is increased low end torque and California emissions compliance (or a system that's easy enough to swap in and out for smog checks every 2 years). If that's a turbo or a supercharger, I'll be a customer either way. My only caveat is that the only vendor I would consider buying one from would be OVTune. The reason being that either system will require signifigant tuning and Mat is the expert.

Good luck with passing the California emissions testing. A FI kit is going to be a PITA if you have to uninstall the system every year or two. Pretty soon the only vehicles that will be compliant in Cali will be hydrids and EV. Better off buying a Rivian.

Applaud Mat and OVT for developing multiple FI kit options for the 2GR-FKS. Feel like a little kid before Xmas

That might be true in theory if you drive it like a grandma, technically with forced induction your engine is operating more efficiently. But in reality fuel mileage goes down...considerably in some cases, depending on how you drive. People don't usually install superchargers and then drive even more carefully than they did when their trucks were N/A. They drive harder. Once you start getting into boost you're going to burn more fuel.

That, and you now have to use 91 octane minimum, 93 if you can find it. So even if you did see some slight increase in MPG it would be negated and then some by the more expensive fuel cost.

And this is expected to be a cheaper option to the roughly $6,000 usd turbo kit?

Another few weeks... Lots of welding. Then..all that’s left is the power department and I think the 500hp rotrex is the perfect ticket.
    Cerakote suspension.. sick!

Yeah. Let's do it. C38-91. Can't wait to see how much PSI @6800rpm. I have a feeling we can see 100whp gain from this stage 3.
But I have no clue if our engine and the head can accept that much airflow.

    ZR2 3.6L picked up 110hp 80ft/lbs to the wheels but that’s using a TVS 1900.

I would hope 80-90rwhp for the base kit.

I won’t be holding my breath for that.

I am curious about towing with this turbo setup. These are trucks after all. Say I wanna pull a 6000lb trailer from Phoenix to Flagstaff tomorrow. It’ll be roughly 105° ambient when I start climbing. I’d like to be able to keep the AC on of course. I’d also like to be able to maintain the speed limit. Maybe even pass some slowpokes in the steep areas. What’ll my exhaust valves look like by the time I pull into town? IF I pull into town.

The 1gr with the Magnuson would do it. No problem. With cats.

How are we controlling exhaust temps while towing with this setup?

DPF system from a diesel, that should help, just ask California. I'm sure they'll point you that way................
