    Hey Guys:

Anybody look into their outside mirrors at highway speed and notice that they're moving slightly? Really more of a vibration, I guess. Just to make sure I wasn't imagining things, I looked at the rear-view mirror and it was rock solid. Both outside mirrors do it. You can really notice it when you're looking at a car behind you...very shaky.

The truck has less than 2,500 miles on it.

    Thanks,

    Rossi

I have to take it in for the prop shaft anyway, I guess I was preparing myself for one of those dealer comments like, "They all do that," or maybe, "We can't duplicate the problem." I wanted to see if anyone else had this issue or even if there's a way to fix it / tighten the mirrors.

    Thanks...

I've seen mine have a slight vibration at highway speeds depending on what way the wind is blowing. I've also had my stereo up loud enuf to make the mirrors vibrate.

Until the entire housing is shaking- I'm not going to worry about it. I installed both the mirrors on my truck- so I know they are tight and installed correct.

In the winter time I notice/hear the vibration more. If it did it all the time, then I would be alitte worried. But, I'm not under warranty.

Took the truck in for the prop shaft recall and told the dealer about the mirrors....Well, they agreed that they vibrate. They took another new 2010 Tacoma for a ride at highway speeds to see if they could duplicate the problem. And they did. (Mirrors vibrate at speed just like mine).

So...The official word from the dealer is, "Mirrors operate as designed!"

I called Toyota and since the dealer diagnosed it this way, they said there is obviously nothing they can do. I told them to run it up the chain and see if they can come up with a fix. I won't be holding my breath.

I love the truck, but there's no way these mirrors should vibrate like that. It has to be a poor design / fitment issue. I can actually lay my fingertips on the mirror and feel it moving. It's way too loose in the housing.

    Take care,

    Rossi

I noticed just the drivers side mirror is loose while the passanger side isn't. I dont think that this is something normal or both of mine would be. Its become more noticable with time. Driving down the highway you can see how loose the drivers side is while the passanger side is perfectly stable. Its more or less annoying than anything. Does anyone know how to tighten the outside mirrors?

I think it's the design of the mirrors. You just got lucky with your right mirror.

I've got this issue escalated now to the point of a "Technical Assistance Request" being sent to Toyota by the dealer. (Toyota helped them with the process). This "may" lead to a service bulletin or recall.

I think you can check to see if your housing is tight with the torx screw directly underneath the mirror. Not sure. If the mirror itself is loose, I don't think it can be tightened. If someone knows a way, please tell me.

I have the jiggly loose mirror on the left of my 2009 DC and the right is tight! It drives me crazy cause I am under warranty but know the stealer will BS me and feed me a story as I am still getting ready to take it in for the tranny and spring TSB, I guess I would rather have that done!

Still no help from the dealer that is working the case number from Toyota. I'm taking the truck in to a dealer that's local to me (I didn't buy the truck there) to have the leaf spring TSB done. They're going to get involved now. Maybe the more dealers I get involved, the quicker they'll fix my mirrors..

My 2009 also has loose mirrors. Not the housing, but the actual mirror. Maybe loose isn't the word, possibly vibrating.

Only happens at highway speeds. Irritating.

Mine are solid. Maybe they changed suppliers on the mirrors? I would keep bitching till they get it fixed.

For those who might be interested....

Took the truck in today for the leaf spring TSB. I had my local dealer check the mirrors. They drove TWO 2010 Tacoma's like mine and BOTH trucks had vibrating outer mirrors! Toyota has no fix. (At least that's all they can share with the dealer). So now I've had two separate dealers drive a total of three 2010 Tacoma's and they all have the same problem. I'm not sure what I'm going to have to do to get this fixed..

To top it all off today, the dealer, whom I made an appointment with 2 weeks ago to get the leaf springs upgraded, didn't have the parts! Unbelievable!

My drivers side does this to the point that I cannot tell the make of the vehicle behind me. The dealer did the same to me. "yeah it does vibrate but its normal"
I tried the star screws under the housing and they did nothing. So you don't have to try it, but your more than welcome to as you may get lucky.

    Help!

Talked with the Customer Experience Center at Toyota yesterday. I now have two case numbers. I generated one and the dealer from yesterday the other. Toyota advised that their techs have heard of the problem but it is not "widespread." They said the single best thing I could do is have people call in and complain. (Two dealers and three brand new trucks in a row with the same problem sounds widespread enough to me).

    Here's the number:

1-800-331-4331. Please call and complain if you have loose mirrors!

    Thanks,

    Rossi
