Got mine yesterday. I have sanded, primed, and put on the first coat of paint. I decided to go with HIVIS so I picked red. I will add installed pics, hopefully today.

Same. Mine arrived yesterday, will be priming and painting tonight, and hopefully installing tomorrow with pics. I will be using Home Depot's Metalic Blue Coral to get a darn close match to my BBP. I doubt my wife would like HIVIS, so I always need to keep her opinion in the mix.

I failed. I could not get the torx to break free. That is the first time that I bunged one up. I didn't want to use heat due to the paint. That was probably my big mistake.

I can say this. No bad guy is gonna get your tailgate with one of these on there.

Painted flat black and available locally if anyone wants it. $20 and free delivery in the Lynnwood, Everett, Seattle area.

Funny, I couldn’t break mine loose either. It’s a 1/4” socket version and don’t have an adapter to use a bigger ratchet. I’ll probably get a bigger and better set, really hate Torx bolts.

I have two T40s. One is 1/4in drive that was slipping in the jaws of both an adjustable wrench and vice grips. The other is a very nice 1/2in drive socket. I pulled the tailgate off the right side, used an extension, and pressed in hard as I could. It stripped that puppy.

I was torquing evenly and not at an angle.

I was thinking paint was the problem, but I wonder if they put some red thread lock in there?

If you get a skinny punch that fits in the torx and wack it good and hard it will shock the threads and should come loose. Or Barrow a impact driver (the kind you hit, not the drill) from eurozone for free.

I'm at the EasyOut stage now. But, there is not much room to work since I have the RokBlock bed seal installed. I can't get a standard drill bit near that bolt.

I am wondering if some conductive heat from the back side would have help. Like a high watt soldering iron against the tail of the bolt?

Sorry, Chris. I edited the post to say that I can't get a standard drill bit near the bolt. Like I said though, this is a great mod that would be difficult for a bad guy to defeat.

Maybe @Grossomotto can try that with his?

I'll try that this weekend, I've got a ton of stuff to do like install compressor, switches and I'll monkey with the tailgate. I know others have installed this, it's just a matter of getting the better Torx bits with good leverage, I only have a 1/4" drive on it, but will try with a larger ratchet and also the suggested punch.

I was referring to the hot iron theory, I think that's a great idea

I hear you. But, I'm out with the FUBAR'ed bolt. A dremeled slot might work, but I don't think there is enough head there to get a good grip without hitting the bracket.

This is all on me though.

If I didn't have the seal, taking the TG off and getting some working room might have had me thinking differently.
