Sure seems like it, I'm old, probably among the oldest in this thread. I'm so old that we had a smoking section for students in our high school.

In my day, the teachers used to be able to smoke INSIDE the school in the teachers lounge. Crazy now to think about it.

Who do we have local to central MA with some metal fab/welding skills? I'm starting down the road to scratch build a small off-road camping trailer and haven't got the skills or facilities to tackle the build on my own, so I'm looking for a member with the skills and some free time who might be up for helping me with a build. I've got a solid set of plans and will be picking up the raw materials and component parts over the next few months. I'd like to try and put this together over the winter for use next summer. The image below is one of the build options from the plans, but I want to make the box taller and set it up with a couple of crossbars for a RTT.

So picked up my electric chainsaw yesterday, got to use it for about an hour this morning. While they are obviously limited I think it’s perfect for 90% of non commercial use. Took down a handful of 6-10 inch trees, random smaller crap and cut up 3-4 fat logs that had were in the middle of my new trails etc... in the hour I was out I obviously wasn’t cutting the entire time but I only used about 35-40% of my battery.

For any real heavy duty work or anything over a medium sized tree I would want a gasser, but all my trails go around the nice big ones so that isn’t a problem for me. If something huge falls I can always borrow a saw from a family member.

I am going to be up near Portsmouth next week and was wondering if there are any places to get a little muddy. I'm stock so I am not looking for any serious wheeling, but a little dirt never hurt right?

Electric saws have come a long way, now that they're putting LI batteries in them. I still prefer gas just because I'm typically cutting high-volume or large-size trees, but I can definitely see how a light electric unit would be handy for trail maintenance or if you're just a typical homeowner looking to clean up brush around your property.

Yeah, thought of Dan, but the distance makes it challenging. I know this is going to be a multi-day effort and was hoping to find someone closer, that I could get to after work if needed.

I bought a Makita electric weedwacker and it is awesome. It takes two 18v batteries and I'd say the 5.0AH ones last about as long as a full tank of gas did in my last one. Plenty of power, too. If I have a ton to do, I have four good batteries so by the time one set dies the others are fully charged.

I have the same plans as well. Build up a small camping trailer with bars for the RTT. Keep me in the loop on this if you’re willing.

I bought one it's perfect for what I do & trail work. Every gas saw I ever bought eventually got gummed up since I don't use it all the time.
I also bought a DeWalt Max tablesaw that works so awesome when building off-site with no power. That thing rips pun intended.
Home Depot had deep discounts on it at one time.

Yeah I’m only doing smaller stuff, and with the minimal amount of maintenance required on the battery machines it’s right up my alley. Like someone else mentioned, if you don’t use the saw regularly they seem to be a pain. That could be due to improper storage though I don’t know.

Yeah I have a weed eater and leaf blower that use same battery as the saw. I can usually weed eat and blow grass clippings at our business in one battery it’s great. I love how quiet it is, let’s me get some stuff done early before it heats up.
