None of the options on the market thrilled me, especially for the price.

I had a checklist I wanted to mark for all of the things I expected of the system, and after much thought and way more work than I had planned...I got it all successfully accomplished.

Light Weight: Check- Significantly less weight than other market offerings.

Modular: Check- I can run with or without the bins installed. I can run without the entire middle section, which enables me to do much more without taking out entire system. I could run a single side as well if I decided.

Carries Hi Lift: Check- Rock solid mounts, and it's out of the way.

No modifications to truck bed: Check- bolts in with factory bolts.

Easy removal and install: 6 bolts total (Rock Solid)

Nearly endless tie down options: check

Off the shelf parts: almost check... Everything is available from 8020 (some parts were modified) except the panels, I ended up doing those out of marine ply (best thing for the job). The bins are Euro boxes, available in a few places, I have 6 bins that all nest snugly into space. The price point overall was a bit more than I was hoping, but significantly less than the other market offerings (which didn't thrill me anyhow.)

I like this idea! I’ve been wanting to do something similar except with more security from the top.
    Great job!

It's not cheap, but a whole lot cheaper than ARB or Alu Cab.

Putting locks on the lift up panels would be an easy enough job.
    Thanks

Nice work. Pretty much what I'm planning to do with my truck bed and most likely gonna go the 8020 route. I really like the DECKED system but I find it too pricey and takes up way too much of the bed but I'll most likely build something like the DECKED system but lower profile. Do you mind providing how much you spent on the hardware? Just a ballpark works.

Would you be able to post up a rough parts list for all of this? Got any more pictures? Thinking of doing something similar. But I'd have to think about making the rack a little shorter and maybe use shorter bins. I have a rollup bed cover. Looks like there wouldn't be much room on top of your rack setup with my rollup bed cover in place.

That set up does look pretty sweet and functional.

    Awesome, that would be great.

Any idea how much that rack system weighs?

Just getting started (bought used with 20k on the odometer)
    Very clean.

Have you had an opportunity top take it out for an adventure since the build? Or is it something you find yourself interacting with on a daily basis?

You mentioned the middle section being removable. I really appreciate the versatility of having that option. Have you done so, is so what time of disassembly time are you facing (approximately)? Lots of small hardware?

    Bottomline: Extremely impressive.

It’s seen a few camping and hunting trips along with the daily chores. My buddy borrowed it for a pretty extensive off road trip. SOLID

This is not the first drawer system I have made, a ridiculous amount of planning went into this system. Having lived with it for a while there is still not anything I would change. For what I use it for, it’s great.

It’s a 3-5 minute procedure to remove or install the middle section.

I am actually moving away from the Tacoma platform, and I actually have it listed in the Florida classified section.... for less than it cost to build.
    Thanks

my set up is 8020 also, i'll get pictures this weekend. All of the extrusions were free, from a fixture we used to use at work, i just had to buy junctions, bolts and t-nuts.

@40tude Do you mind sharing (posting) the 80:20 list of materials? I went with decked, but I can see myself designing something more custom in the future, the build list would be super helpful.

The amount of detail that wen into the planning is evident. Kudos!

As for the 3-5 min removal. That is very impressive, especially considering the options that it opens up for storage and/or hauling.

I wanted to use the 80/20 for mine as well but after drawing it up and pricing it out I would've spent $600+ just on the 80/20. I opted to build mine with wood, but to keep the weight down I used a 1x3 as a top and bottom stringer with some vertical supports every so often. With my drawers out I can remove the whole thing by myself, although the 80/20 would've been way lighter I could not justify spending that amount of money.
