After doing some research work for our trucks today regarding the thermostat I found an undeniably similar if not identical bolt pattern to the thermostat to that of a Tundra housing. The housing neck is a little shorter which should not present any problems. Thermostat housing to the left of these photos is purely for reference purposes the one on the right is for a Tundra.

With that being said, those in the market for a cooler 160* F thermostat will be pleased to know that Mishimoto offers a direct bolt on housing/ T- stat combination unit for the Tundra for racing, towing, and heavy duty applications around some $60 on their website.

    No adapter plate required. ;)

    Subbed.

do you know off hand in the thermostat housing bolt pattern is an equal length triangle configuration? Can the neck be rotated over 120 degrees out towards the radiator? I have no fan clutch to worry about.

I do not know the measurements offhand, but based upon the design, it APPEARS the mounting bolts are an equal distance length indicating a perfecting triangular mounting design.. if that is so, you are free to run it with the elbow facing out towards the front end.

SO, Just to play devils advocate, you could eliminate belt slippage and extend belt life....... by running a larger crank pulley with 6 ribs, new tensioner support bracket that moves the tensioner pulley over and down away from crank pulley. New 6 rib grooved idlers (possibly different OD to position belt for clearance at tensioner arm stop, revert back to 3" OD 6 rib supercharger drive pulley, new thermostat housing to move contact point away from engine by 1 rib width.

I know this thread is supposed to be about a simple replacement pulley....but I can dream....

Gentlemen.. need your expertise. I am gonna be installing the magnuson kit this weekend but the local dealerships don't seem to want to help with the TRD flash. It is my understanding that even to use HP Tuners I will need to have my ECU flashed with the TRD calibration first. Guess my question is: Do I go UCON, OVTune, or get setup to try the flash myself? The tacoma isn't my daily driver but of course I'd like to start making some boost as soon as I finish the install. Any opinions on my best move?

Find a different (more helpful) dealer. TRD tune is the path into HPT and OVT, with HPT being the preferred option.

Where are you located? Maybe you are near a member who has techstream and would be willing to flash your truck for you. You really want the trd base flash unless you are going to use the ucon.

I am in southeast PA. I know I've read in this thread about buying the mongoose cable and techstream, doesn't seem overly complicated just not clear on the exact details. I am an industrial mechanic by trade and am no stranger to plugging my laptop into expensive machines.

While a lot of the people in this thread hate the UCON, I have had it for over a year, and it has been great. @BassAckwards has had a good experience with his as well (once he convinced URD to replace his circuit board after initial problems). You just have to swallow your pride and ignore URD's condescension while asking for tech support. The unit has machine learning that allowed me to put on a 1.87" pulley without re-tuning.

That said, it's a pretty expensive election compared to HP tuners, which is what most are going with these days.

I'm another one running the UCON and in general am very happy with it. Up until a few of months ago, it was the only solution that would allow you to run larger injectors without an overly complex work around. I also have it controlling an integrated 7th injector.

That said, I'm always curious about the new developments and I may or may not have an HPtuner and FIC injectors sitting on the bench staring at me everyday.....decisions.

If you intend to run anything smaller than a 2.8" pulley, yes.

Whether you plan to or not, cutting the snout before installing the quick change hub ensures your ability to run smaller sizes (when you inevitably decide to do so in the future).

No issue with the UCON here. Been running since 2013

Ran the apr x-1 since 2008 while N/A before that. Never flashed my ecu to trd flash.

Agreed! I am very happy with my UCon as well. Ive been running it about 10 months now.. the first five were shit, but after that its been nothing but smooth sailing
