Half the time I print it, just cuz I can...
Although I did find the petg isn't too fond of a hot summer dash. It got soft enough to not grip the ball too well, so I am going to try to print the grips out of abs to see if they can handle the heat.

    That’s pretty cool.
I’d figure it would take a few mounts to pay for the printer?

How complicated is the software to design parts?

Can the quality be close to the RAM parts?

Just be warned about this. I did a similar mount location on my truck. Because of the radiation pattern from the antenna mount location, you will get out great in front of the truck, but you won't be able to talk to anyone behind you. Mine is so bad I'm considering moving it.

My printer has more than paid for itself, I paid about $300 for it a few years ago.
And as far as how complicated is it to draft up parts depends on the user, some people can pick it up quite quick, some not so much. Luckily, the are tutorials everywhere for most drafting programs. Also help if the user is able to break down designs into simpler shapes.
As far as strength, they are not quite as strong as the actual ram mounts. But I could easily add a little more material to beef them up a bit. Also, they don't have the light rubber coating on the balls like ram mounts do, so the don't quite grip as solid as Rams.
I have designed little TPU (a rubber like 3d printer filament) inserts that do help grip the ball a little better

This is my 2nd gen. Do you think mounting a dual band VHF/UHF in the pictured mount will receive interference from the AM/FM antenna?

Yes. It will also couple lots of power into the AM/FM.

For your purposes this radio is awesome. The only downside is when trying to access split-tone repeaters, per this post

Also, what antenna is that you're using with the FT-891 and tuner?

I’m talking about the piece of metal they’re mounted to. I’m assuming it’s custom.

It will not have too much issue with receiving. While it is close to the vertical it is not actually too close. On transmit however you have two issues, one is the loss incurred and the other is the power received on the FM car radio. But technically you shouldn’t be transmitting while you have the FM radio on anyway so even that may not be an issue. Let us know if you cook the car stereo.

Sorry, never got any alerts that it was replied to.

Anyway, it’s an amplifier plate that taco_tunes sells for their audio systems.
