Why the hell do dealers care/discourage the damn TSB Springs?

I don't get it. I have been reading different posts over the past month and read so many stories about the us Taco owners getting "discouraged" or talked out of getting the TSB done from the service dept.

Why do they care? They get the work, they get paid. I know that's how it works here... The dealer doesn't eat the cost, Toyota does...

I went to take mine in to "see if it is eligible" (which I knew it was). When I arrived, the guy said "unless you have heavy loads everyday, I'm not going to approve of this... bla bla bla"

I told him "I have heavy loads every day, look for yourself" (there are two pebbles in my truck bed from god knows what lol). He said "ok" and scheduled me for this week.

Then, they are replacing the shocks on all 4 corners... which I think is silly but w/e. I asked him if I could just order my lift and use those shocks... he said if I brought it in with a lift (leveled) then they wouldn't even touch it....

In my opinion.....being as they dont make the same amount of money for warranty work, If they are busy, they prefer to try and not do it. IMHO, its seems dealers who arent that busy, seem to have no issue with doing the TSB's....

Sorry to hear those issues your having with the TSB. I moved to a different state and learned about the TSB there. Took it to a different dealer and had the red carpet rolled out for me to do the TSB. No questions asked. Good luck and be persistant!!

Not sure if this is true with Toyota but talking with my girlfriend's cousin who is a tech at Ford, He said techs do not get paid as much money for warranty work.

I thought something like that, the guy here said not the case. They get paid exactly as normal. So who knows...

Out of curiosity, is there anybody who regrets getting the TSB Spings done?

    This.
Plus in the data driven business world- The time spent fixing "failures" on the company dime is not time spent selling parts or making money from service.
It's work that gets paid for...But it's a different quality of work.

I don't know either. My dealer played stupid but finally did it. They claimed to have never heard of it and then told me I couldn't have it done because I had a TRD Package. About 3 phone calls later and it was done.

My dealer didn't give me any trouble but some do, I think like Chris said its paid work just not as well paid.

Ask for the service manager as opposed to a service tech. My experience was that the techs were the ones pushing me out the door. The service manager approved it immediately without question.

When I brought mine in, the guy I dealt with also owned a Tacoma and said "cool, I'm going to do this too to get a free rear lift". They looked up the parts and ordered them that day without ever looking at the truck.

It all depends on the dealer's attitude.

I am getting mine done on weds.i called the dealership that i bought it from and they said they would have to take a look at them to see if it needed to be done. I then called the dealer closest to me and he asked me when i wanted to set up the appt.So we will see how this goes,i am a little worried about them cutting off my gas peddle while its in there though.

I agree some shops are too busy to do springs cause they are backed up choppin gas pedals, etc. right now. and my guess is Toyo Corp. only pays say 1/2 actual shop rates for labor on warranty if that, and there's no parts revenue in it for the dealers. could also be the labor reimbursement from Toyo is in "blue" dollars instead of "green" and only shows up on some chart instead of actually paying the dealers overhead. go figure...

If you have 4 leaf springs (3 plus an overload), the TSB was performed on your truck. If you have 3 springs (2 plus an overload) it was not.

That's what happened to me. I would have never noticed though I don't routinely look at my pedal. Had it in for 15k service and when reading my bill when I got home saw that they performed a safety recall(hadn't even received the paper work in the mail yet) and then went out and saw my mini pedal.

Ego plays a part. Both the service writers and in some cases, the service manager.

They HATE the Internet...and the fact that you know more about your truck than they do.

Doubtful that you'll ever find a tech who would disagree with the fact that you need/want a TSB done. Most techs are gear heads, and love the idea that you are getting your truck upgraded.

this, the dealer I had mine done at (even though I replaced in 6 months later with bilstein 5100) asked me if I wanted it done while I was there for a bug deflector

Just called Kern Toyota in Winchester, VA about doing mine. The guy said that something has to be broken before a TSB can be done!!!! I said...uhh...a rough ride under load has to be broken before you can fix it? He said...that was older model years. I said, "I have the bulleton printed in my hands and it includes 2010."

He then asked me if I was having problems with it! Something tells me I'm going to get a run around...
