Aftermarket B/U camera install

Are there any posts/videos/tutorials for wiring up an aftermarket backup camera to an aftermarket head unit? I've found lots of threads for using factory wiring but that's not what I have. Specifically I'm looking for suggested cable routing, how to properly protect wires, and so forth. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

If it matters it's a 2nd Gen DCLB.

 

Get reverse signal from drivers side kick panel


Get yourself 15’ of ¼” wire loom and cover the wire, starting at the camera. Tape the ends of the loom to the wire to keep it from sliding.

Mount your camera in its spot

Find the factory wire bundle under the truck. Should run along one of the frame rails.

Get a bag of 6” zip ties and some flush cutters

Route loomed wire along factory wire bundle, zip-tie’ing every foot or two. You don’t want ANY loose wire that can get caught on something. Zip ties are cheap so use lots

Find a rubber grommet that allows access into the truck interior. Typically there is one under the front seats or under the front floorboard carpet. Cut a slice in that and run your wire through it.

Route wire neatly from there to the radio location

Get accessory power from your radio harness (the red wire in your radio’s plug)
