TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

My recommendation would be to buy a spare ecu and ask @o0opackersfano0o if he would be willing to flash it for you. He came in clutch for me when i was having problems and he flashed mine with the TRD tune. I would send him a PM, nice guy that can probably help you out.

How did you get on such a small pulley with out cutting the shit out of the snout? I’m about to cut mine to allow for a 2.5 or 2.6” pulley and just looking at the snout it doesn’t look like there is enough meat on it.

 

Lol this gentleman took a grinder to his snout i believe.. a bit of trimming was definitely done

Does this mishimoto give us the clearances needed if we go with a 6 rib system?

 

No sir. I work for toyota so I just grab a used tacomaoff the lot and plug the ecu I’m reflashing into it and flash it. And it’s done. Unless it plugs into my xrunner then I just use that. But ecus changes certain years.

You bought one from Mishimoto or you already own a 160* thermostat?

No they do not. It is just a lower temp T-stat with a shorter neck. The longer I think about it, the only way I ever anticipate a 6 rib setup will work is if we get a thermostat housing which is 3D printed out of some incredibly strong, incredibly temperature resistant plastic or a CNC'ed housing... Coupled with the custom building of a 6 rib crank pulley, the additional costs of the 6 rib idler and blower pulley conversion, along with the belt itself and this project may be way too much trouble than it is worth. I don't know that it will be worth it unless we can streamline the mods to like a one stop shop which would offer some sort of package to do all that for us.

 

I see your point. How about this- I dont really like how close the belt is to the t-stat. I'd like a custom aluminum one even if a 6 rib option is a slow process IF it happens. Could we contact smooth flow?? Nate I believe. If he can make a s/c pulley that works I have faith. Or.... we find another readily available billet unit close enough in specs to have a shop modify it to work. Food for thought.

 

A 6 rib pulley is already available. That is not the issue. It is the amount of work and redesign which will be involved in such a conversion process which will involving sourcing and custom building items from too many separate sources to make it a clean and relatively inexpensive venture. That is the issue.

 

I meant if an all new billet pulley needed to be made if not smooth flow then they might have the connection for it.

 

My supercharger came with a 160 thermostat. What’s the significance to this?
