I am an ex Ford owner and I am use to having a bed light. I see the Tundras have them. To me this is a big short coming of the Tacomas. Is it because they are build overseas? I get awfully tired of fumbling around in the bed at night when I am in a dark place.

    maglite mod...:D

but all kidding aside...myself and I'm sure tons of other guys here would say that they don't agree with some of the decisions that toyota comes out with for the tacoma...

while toyota can go all out on other vehicles it seems they like to cut corners on the tacoma...even though its the best selling vehicle they have for our platforms; 4x2/4x4 pickups/suvs alike...

The Tundra is the "big brother" and the Tacoma is the "left-handed red-headed stepchild" ..... the $$$ would be through the roof if everything offered on the Tundra were to be offered on the Tacoma.

As for being built overseas ..... mine was manufactured in California .... although many consider that a foreign country.

Money. If it sells the way its selling, why would they do anything to it that would just increase cost for us and slow down sales for them?

You can't really use the Tundra as a comparison but the Frontier comes with a cargo light, 4 wheel disc brakes and a 4 leaf rear spring pack. Too bad it's so f'in ugly.

i really hate not having a bed light as well. When i get done racing motox and it's dark out it sucks to not have a bedlight when packing everything back up. I really, really hate it. I have looked for a 3rd light that replaces the factory with no luck, i think i'll be doing a bed light diy in the very short future.

My Tacoma was built in California.
I "think" the Tacomas are built in the US and the 4Runners are built in Japan.
No need for a bed light in a 4Runner.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Completely agree, this is a major over sight in the design. It obviously wasn't a deal breaker for me, but I used mine all the time in my old truck, and I've needed it many of times now.

Does anyone know if there is an after market replacement out there?

A lot of them are built in Mexico and US. Used to be Fremont, CA., but production was moved to TX when the Fremont factory closed.

Tacomas are assembled in Tijuana, Mexico and Fremont, California while the plastic/composite beds are all built in Mexico.

In August 2009 Toyota announced that it would relocate Tacoma production from Fremont to San Antonio, Texas.

There is a mod on here somewhere where a guy removed his cyclops, and installed a combo brake/cargo light. Try a search for it. Might give you some ideas.

Y'all wine and complain about the dumbest crap. You knew before buying the truck it didn't have "X" or that it had "Y" and yet you bought it anyways. And before you try and pull that crap saying you didn't know that would just show you didn't do the proper research and made an impulse buy.

I've come to realize that no vehicle is perfect; not even my beloved Tacoma. I bought the truck that I thought was most perfect out of the bunch. Anything it didn't come stock with I planned to add later at my own expense. I suggest everyone else do the same and try to enjoy their vehicle.

it's because the folks that buy Tacoma's have such stellar vision that they are not needed.

Just MOD it. The third brake light / bed light is only good at blinding you anyway. You can come up with a better idea than that. One that actually lights up the box and not shine in your eyes.
