Ideally you would have a seperate volume control to adjust the sub seperately from the rears but without that control (which you could add) you will need to feed the sub channel either the front or rear speaker line level inputs, assuming you are running the sub channel. I used the rear channel because I don't sit back there and if I needed to adjust the bass, I could use the fader to make that adjustment. I turned the sub channel (on the amp) down quite a bit and placed the rest of the speakers on Full so they reproduce all the frequency ranges. You could set your rear speakers to cover the mid to highs and set the sub channel to hold the lows. Again, not ideal so if you were able to connect a stereo volume control to the bass signal, you could set everything up perfectly the first time around and then use that volume control to adjust the bass level.

    Hope that helps,
    Joe

So I am curious - what exactly is the reason? HOW does a different HU increase the sound quality? One of the reasons I am considering this route is so my rig appears stock, but really isnt, and doesnt sound like it is either :)

Because the stock HU does not have a flat response. At low volume levels there is enhanced bass and on my HU, once I'm past the volume setting of 30 it seems to flatten out. Also, it's not a deal breaker but the Stock HU doesn't have a seperate sub channel so controlling your sub's volume level is tricky. I just have mine connected to the rear speaker channels and have it set low. This works for me but I can say it's not perfect.

I like my stock HU but if I could find another an aftermarket HU that looked as if it could have been a factory option, I'd install it.

Numerous technical reasons, DAC, EQ, etc. I have a BitOne processor that should theoretically flatten out the HU's sound, yet I've gone through a few different HU's now and they all sounded different will all else being equal.

The bottom line is that you can compromise and live with the sound quality of the stock HU, or decide if you'd like something better with better control and give up the stock look.

Any 12volt source wire that is on only when the key is turned (ie the yellow wire) will work.

For example, I run a car amp to 6x9s in my garage powered by a PC power supply. I just split the yellow 12volt. One goes to positive, one goes to a remote turn on.

Yes, it does. Some people would have you just connect it to a key on power source, but what if you want the radio off. If the amp is still powered on you may hear a whine from electrical noise. I don't recall where I posted it but search for all my postings. There is one pin out the back of the HU but the connector is not pinned. You can get an old connector from a salvage yard and use one of the pins to make a proper connection.

Edit: Found the posting. It's the last one in the thread. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/au...ory-hu-mounting-pdx-5-under-drivers-seat.html
