I have a 2019 SR5. Below my A/C controls where the knock outs are I only have the ECT button, USB/AUX port, and power rear window switch. I have 3 empty spots not used. My traction control switch is up top by the domelight switch and my auto high beam switch is on the left side of the dash with my rear cargo light switch. They all look like the same size. I am really thinking of moving those 2 down with the others. That would leave 1 empty space which I will use in the future for a bass control know for a subwoofer/amplifier. It should be pretty easy to cut the plugs off and extend the wires. I was just wondering if anybody has done this and if the switches will fit there. Thanks in advance!

I haven't but I might move that ETC to the shifter where I can press it easier. That's a hell of a place to put it. I live in NH WHite Mountains and strive for fuel economy . I haven't looked at just how difficult that might be, but It can be done .

I tried to move some of my switches around, quickly found out that the switched are "keyed" for certain spots. They have ridges on the sides of the switches that match up to certain spots. While some switches may fit, you might have to grind down the ridges on the sides of the switch to get it into the place you want it.

All(most) buttons in the Tacoma are the same overall footprint. The only difference is each hole is keyed differently so 1 switch might not drop into a different hole. It’s really easy to fix, just a flat file. The biggest problem you are going to run into is finding all the OEM connectors(both male and female) to extend each wiring harness. That is, if you don’t want to cut them.

For me the shifter would be fine. I mostly drive in ETC off mode, but like it for going up steeper hills and to cross the Kanc and assorted other local places where there are grades of 8 + .

Reading here I see things like the ECU can learn my driving habits. Not so sure that's true , but suddenly the truck has come around to downshifting on long steep downhill grades, and it didn't for a while before. 6 speed auto with 3.5 V6 engine . And yeah there are buttons on the steering wheel I don't use. But I don't want the ETC button there personally .

If you like google Rt 112 NH USA, or the Kanc and check out a top map for the area too :) We have all 3 seasons, as snow, mud, bugs, and snow ;)

I have had good luck finding the connectors on Rakuten. You will need a good quality crimper for the pins though. Be prepared for sticker shock for some of the larger connectors.

I planned on cutting and extending the wires using solder and heat shrink tubing. I manage a car stereo shop and have access to that and spoils of wore of every color.

That's what I did. Tip: use stinger speed wire for a clean install:)

I used cat-5. Worked awesome. Had speedwire cut and ready to go and decided i just didn’t need 18awg for those tiny wires.
