I'm starting to switch to that mindset. Every summer growing up I lived down the cape 90% of the time with my grandparents and it was awesome. But in the last 10 years or so it's gotten sooo crowded everywhere, beaches included.
My wife's family has a cottage right on Lake Sebago in Maine and we've been going up there more in the summer lately than to the Cape. It's a further drive for sure, but not nearly as busy, and swimming in the lake is amazing.

See, and I typically avoid Sebago because of how many people are on it

Yup, all comes down to perspective. We also don't go out on the lake on a boat or anything. I know that gets very busy, but the beach area we go to it's usually just us and maybe one other group. The main attraction in the area we go is a campground and they have their own beach area which leaves the area we go pretty empty.

Yeah, we usually try to camp as remotely as we can. I've never been a fan of the traditional campground where you're right on top of your neighbors, but sometimes needs must.

everyone shittin on the Cape and i want to defend it (lived in Falmouth basically my whole life), but you're all not wrong.... this is about the last weekend before the crowds get unbearable. June and late september/october are the best months down here. I work in woods hole and cant hardly get a coffee at lunch anymore because of the lines.

Exactly! The saying goes as follows: "At the mouth of the Songo in spring, it's East to West unless you want a beating from the rest."

I can shit on it all I want, I lived and worked there for two years- Falmouth in fact! And the Vineyard. It's awesome for what it is, but July and August are just painful there.

Welcome to Maine.. double lane/quad lane roads are never where you need them... I try my best to avoid wiscassett at all costs unless its early morning, or late evening. so glad DOT is getting rid of their Rt1 parking spaces... I always get stuck outside wiscasset going south.. I blame REDS EATS. someone should hit it with a SEMI, or burn it down.. lol..j/k..

    Small builder called "Rafter Thoughts"

I drive through there at least 6 or 8 times a year. Will be doing so next week UGGGGGGH I'm already dreading it. Sometimes I wonder if I should just drive to fucking Augusta to get to Boothbay.

But regarding Reds Eats- BITE YOUR DAMN TONGUE about burning it down! It may be touristy and expensive but god damn if they really don't have the best lobster roll I've ever had. My dad lived there for about 7 years before I decided to play tourist and stand in that stupid line... it's somewhat justified. Going on the boat and it's a fun experience.

I just wish the freaking tourists would not jump out into rt1 traffic. reds eats is overpriced by the way... go down the road just south on Rt1 about 2 miles across street from Big Al's.. the the sea basket.. food is just as good, and no lines.. I wanted to push for the state to bypass wiscasett like they did with Bath... I'd be happy with that..

YES, with typically a massive line leading out into the road, and railroad tracks... more than one occasion I thought a person in queue was going to fall off the sidewalk into traffic... other tourists just dart our with no crosswalk... J- walking, but wiscasset PD never enforces anything, other than locals speeding...

I just paid my power bill and it reminded me to ask you, Noel, how your frontier life has been going? Living "off grid" or semi-off grid?

GF aborted it, lol. She'd only been aware that I wanted to do it in June for about 6 months, but changed her mind the day before we were supposed to start. She said that she'd rather wait until we've closed on the camp that we're negotiating for and then just live there for the month. So we'll probably do the household shutdown in August, since we're supposed to be closing on the camp in the middle of July.
Although I did tell her that if the deal for the camp falls through that we're doing the shutdown in August and she'll have no room to bitch about not having any power to run the fans or the A/C

    Right down the road

Sabattus Lake. It popped up on mainelistings.com and she happened to see it, went and looked at it, and made an offer on the spot. I found out after I got out of jury duty that day and turned my phone on.
    *powers phone up*
bzzt - "Hey check this out (link)"
bzzt - "I'm going to go take a look at it"
    bzzt - "I love it!"
bzzt - "I made an offer"

So basically I got blindsided by a deal that will more than double the amount of funds we're dedicating to mortgages every month. SURPRISE! :notsure:

But, it is a nice place in a convenient location, with decent waterfront. She's already planning on putting it on Airbnb to help offset the mortgage costs. The ask on it was high, but they were more than willing to negotiate down based on some upgrades/repairs that it needs.
