This is my plan, or what I am hoping for. (New bedsides with paint I was thinking should be close in price to your RTT)

I just don't know how to make it look even half decent. It doesn't have to be perfect, but I have a thing for lines.

I think I can manage an adjustable wrench and channel locks to unroll it. I honestly didn't think about the flares covering most of it because they aren't on it. I don't know if I have them either, but easy enough to grab a set. Do you know of any that come trimmed 2". I would be a cleaner look if they were molded that size instead of trimmed down. I'm not going to spend the time to re-epoxy the bottom lip on them if not. I saw a thread where someone did. Looked good, but too much time and effort for me.

Not really in the market just yet. I've blown this years budget already and then some. Sometimes good deals just come after you spend your budget on the couple planned items. She'll get it someday...:rofl:

Garage is coming along. Outer shell is nearly done. Utilities are trenched out too. Insides are nowhere yet.

Yes, nice. I have two estimates getting done this week to do my house with metal roof. The guy today is going to quote me the stuff like you got on your garage, and with standing seam metal.

I'm also going to try to price out what it would be just to do it myself. Anyone got experience who might know if it is an easy DIY or better just left to the professionals?

Yea I had them do it all at one shot. But I do not recommend them they don’t stand behind the work they do. They blew me off every time I went back

I got rough estimates for our house a couple of years ago. Standing seam was two or three times the price of the screwed on stuff. As for doing it yourself -- it's not hard I guess, the metal comes in sheets and you screw it down. But I hatehatehate roofs. I'd much rather pay someone. I redid the shingles on our little springhouse a few weeks ago and hatedhatedhated even being up there, less than 10 feet off the ground.

Heights don't bother me. Plenty of rock climbing experience gets you over that. If I did it myself the matter would be to figure out how and where to tie some kind of line for safety to harness into. For me, I hatehatehate bees! We have so many wasps up there it SUCKS! All I want is to flip out when a bee lands on my back and I go freaking out and fall, albeit harnessed in, but still get scuffed up in the process.

I don't have much experience with installation. I can say that I have an 8 yr old metal roof. After the tornado I had to get up on it. The little rubber washers that seal the screws are all dry rotted. I am trying to think of a fix other than replacing each on. Maybe silicone. Those worries would be alleviated with standing seam. It also looks better IMO, but there is more cost associated with it. I will say it held up way better than my neighbors with shingles.

Finishing the metal is where I would struggle. There are some certain cuts to get 90's that I fuck up with drip edge or the outer molding that goes on the outside edge. Maybe have someone finish it, but lay the sheeting yourself. Just make sure to get some wood slats to screw to. Unless you are removing the existing first. Most people lay the metal right on top, so it saves on tear down cost as well over shingles. Metal is getting pricey around here though compared to when I did my house. I'm looking at $1100 material for the porch roof. I did the whole house and garage for $8000 labor included!

Never do a roof without a can of spray! Depending on your pitch it isn't too bad to walk on, throw a rope on your yota man. It wont let you down. It is hard though, I don't trust most chimney's. We use scaffolding instead of tying off. Got a contractor buddy with some?

Father in law has plenty of scaffolding. But I didn't think of tying off to the Taco! That's totally awesome, just park it on the opposite side I'm working on and throw the rope over the roof? Anchor down maybe onto a steering tie rod end?

There's better points to tie to. Don't tie to the tie rod
