It does change to a degree but you should be able to figure out to not make tight turns or to avoid hard accelerations.

I had it in my daily driver for years, no problems, unless you can’t figure it out.

Well I was 19 at the time so I can't exactly argue that point. But, I think it's kind of odd to put a cheap auto locker in a brand new vehicle. IMO, get the ARB (or Harrop). Selective is the way to go if you daily your rig, if it's a weekend toy or trailer toy then auto lock it front/rear, or weld that sucker.

Save up the money if you have to, most mods that are worth doing cost a pretty penny and most of us don't just have that lying around (unless you :spending:)

I would question the wiring and not screwing that up or the harness. Installing the locker itself should be fine, it may take me a little longer but I should get it no issue.

There are so many write ups and videos on ARB installs, you shouldn't have any trouble figuring it out if you DIY. I'm sure someone from this forum is in your area and could help you out if you need it

Yea I'm think the ARB will be easier on my end, with the benefit of onboard air. Time to save my pennies I guess.

I get jealous of anyone with ARB compressors every time I'm around one on the trail. My Viar 300p can't hold a candle to how fast those ARB's fill up tires, it's crazy. Especially the dual compressors.

You can figure out the wiring on a unit work bench and I’m sure someone has already done something similar and you could find the pin outs to hard wire a switch.
It’s just a solenoid to engage it, all the other wires are probably related to informing the computer of it’s position so it could prevent engagement.

A stand alone elocker controller is relatively easy to make, and well documented at various places on the web. They can also be converted to a mechanical cable actuating system.

What is the benefit of the cable actuating system?

No electronics involved... pull/push lever moves a cable that engages the locker.

I've only really heard of those conversions with the electronic lockers like the TRD one...it eliminates the need for the actuator so you aren't relying on any electronics or wiring to engage the locker...just a simple pull lever that's connected to a cable.

That sounds amazing. Sounds nice and simple!
Didn't even know that was an option. I'm fairly new to Taco's and 4wd if that's not abundantly clear.

I made this one about 20 years back. The pics are super high quality as they are old school and scanned. Some companies offer them in kit form, but they are not cheap.

I was just looking at a cable conversion kit the other day but I can't remember the name of it....I'll see if I can dig it up

I think it was this one...Chillkat designs, about $400

I see mention of the 3rd gen Tacoma 8.75” e locker in this thread. This is not possible.
    The OP has an SR5....
SR5 Tacoma does not come with the 8.75” differential it comes with the Traditional Toyota 8” differential. That opens the lid on a can full of traction options for the SR5. The OP asked about the locker out of a 3rd gen 4runner which is an 8”. The SR5 axle housing can be modified to use the older style Toyota e locker but it takes some work to do it. It is by no means a plug and play application. There are harnesses available to control the older style e locker with a switch and a couple of relays.

Good luck. I literally gave my last arb locker away because it had a leak about 70% of the times I needed it. More frustrating than useful. Auto locker in the rear axle is the way to go IMHO. Until I got the 3g Tacoma I daily drove a truck with an auto locker for 20+ years. Once you learn how they act it is a non issue.

Do you have another one you want to give away?
