12 beeps

When I grab the door handle on the driver's side it will beep 12 times and not unlock the door. I have not made any changes to the truck. It has 36000 miles on it and it has been intermittant until yesterday now it is everytime. Any ideas on what this could be?

No just ran out.

 

Perhaps Toyota included programming that makes you regret not extending the warranty?

I would start with replacing battery in the key fob, if that doesn’t help it’s possibly your power lock actuator that needs to be changed.

 

I would go talk to them about it anyway. Not being demanding, but more 'pretty please can you help me out?'. Especially if it now does it every time.

Maybe some dealer goodwill will flow your way. Especially if you show up in full uniform.............

I would try the battery in the remote first though. Just in case it's that easy. Save you a bunch of time.

 

Disconnect battery cable while facing East. Then tap your (red is optional) shoes together three times. This should help.

 

I replaced the battery in the truck and the fob and it is still doing it I am taking it to the stealership this morning and have them check it out Thank you for all the suggestions.

 

That’s really odd I have never encountered that many beeps in a row. I use to install aftermarket alarms, and when there was an error it would honk(or parking lights flash) a certain number of times. Then you could cross reference that to the issue. I wasn’t aware of any “self diagnosing” like this built into the Tacoma ECU. Definitely keep us updated!

 

Just got back from the diagnostic and it is the door lock actuator that has gone out. Thank you for all the help.

 

Glad I got the extended warranty. Even Toyota’s can break lol. Glad you got it fixed.

Is your dealership footing the bill since the warranty just expired?
