Pshhhh, that’s why our trucks have AC! Even though mine doesn’t work worth a damn lol. Skinny pedal and windows down is all you need

I don't like the thought of being somewhere remote and hot and having a break down or failure of some sort that would result in a grueling hot hike, or having to work on the truck in the awful heat. Even just hanging out on the trail during breaks and what not sucks in the heat. I'm just a cold weather dude in a warm weather state :help:

Also my AC sucks too, I really need to get it working again lol. It works great when it's < 80 degrees outside, but over that and it just blows warm air.

    I suppose you are right.

My ac works just ok when it’s cool out, but once it gets into the 90s its like it can never just blow cold for more than a couple seconds every minute.

Probably just needs a proper recharge. Mine also sounds like Darth Vader breathing when it's on, so it probably needs a little more work

What Ryan said. It's not really a problem when in the truck. It's when you stop to grab a beer, have lunch, fix a flat tire (or worse). Additionally your AC may work but eventually your cabin air filter will get clogged and start to blow dust in your face. The entire experience is not my favorite. I'd rather drive to the mountains in the summer.

When we do my brake lines I can take a look at the AC ... I have been meaning to pickup the gauge set to monitor the high side and low side pressure.

Not to derail this thread, but I have had it recharged the last two years in a row. Something is wrong with it cus even then it still doesn’t work very good. Nothing like my previous 2 tacomas.

It might have a small leak. If it does you should be able to trace it by just following the lines coming out of it and there would most likely be some sort of buildup around the leak

I thought this too, but even when it’s recharged it doesn’t work great. It does get worse though. There is 0 residue anywhere I can see, which leads me to believe that it’s the evaporator core. Also smells like dirt when I turn my ac on. I’ve used those foaming evap cleaners and it makes the dirt smell go away, but only for a few months. I always keep up on my cabin air filter too. So my only thought is, it’d leaking in the evap core and the little dust that gets past the cabin filter is sticking to it. Just my theory. I plan on tearing the dash out soon and replacing it if my next few things don’t fix it. (Nu-brite on the condenser, and possibly getting a new fan clutch.)

Yeah I think the leak in my system is also the evap core.
I get a bandaid smell when I turn the A/C on though its gradually started to fade after using a recharge can that has a sealer in it.

I also have a problem i got to fix on my 1st gen AC. Compressor works fine but there is no air coming out of the center vents, defrost does not work and air is stuck on the feet. Selector switch does nothing and i hear the servos making random noises. Ill be looking into it this weekend.

I had this happen to my civic. Dude said my compressor was worn out. It's fine in cold to medium weather, but becomes out of spec when it gets hot, and doesn't actually spin the compressor wheel. Technical details aside, I ended up paying for it anyway despite my limited understanding. Blows cold now.

Damn that’s all great hardware and great parts Selection :hattip: Sucks we have to put so much of our $$$ into suspension. Despite what it would probably cost, wish we could buy them from the Toyota factory with similar performance. :burnrubber:

Thanks man. I agree it’s making me bleed my savings but once you go half way might as well try to do it right the first time around. Though at times I’ve found it’s not even about the parts selection but how well the shop knows the tunning trimming and setting things up so it functions well. I certainly hope it won’t make it worse than factory lol
