    I fuel with 89 octane, it’s mid grade. While I know 87 octane is what the manual calls for. Do we as consumers always get the octane we are paying for. It’s only a few cents more a gallon and never had an engine knocking issue.

    If you have the vacuum pump for your brakes, and not the accumulator, take a look at the pump. There is a service bulletin that talks about the vacuum pump knocking, and resonating through the camshaft. The key that goes into the camshaft itself that drives the pump has a lot of play in it. That's what you're hearing 9 times out of ten. Sorry that it took this long.

    Nothing really, I bought it used with a loft and wheels then did a 2x4-4x4 conversion.
    Try putting a higher octane in it, apparently newer Tacoma’s have a rating higher than 85
