I'm having some issues removing the wiper caps from the bottom of the shocks any tips or tricks anybody can pass along would be greatly appreciated. And yes I took out the small set screws already.

You need 2.5 shock body clamps and a large pipe wrench.

Heat might help loosen the corrosion on the threads.

I have all of that but I was just concerned about putting heat on the shock body. Wasn't sure if it would damage anything.

You will probably melt out the wiper seals your going to replace anyway.

If those are the set from Utah that was for sale a while ago you might as well replace the bodies as well, they looked beat!

They are cleaning up nicely just a little CLR and you can see the difference.not pitted at all and the threeds are in good shape.

They will rust again in no time in NoCal. I'd spend the $200 for new bodies and replace them since it's already all apart.

You could try a high end paint like steel-it or similar to recoat the bare metal.
