Long story short, I’ve got a black 01 access cab Prerunner. I’ve had it since 2011, just last year the trucks paint went from ok to totally smoked on the roof and hood. I’ve got a new baby on the way and need to get a 4 door so I’m looking at potentially selling this truck. Kbb values it at 6300-7900 in “good” condition. 5500-6800 in “fair” condition. The truck is in flawless mechanical shape, the only problem is the paint. What should I expect when trying to sell this thing in SoCal?

Probably drop 500 bucks off of the condition you think its in. (about 1/2 of a cheapo paint job?)

You live in California so it probably shouldn't affect it too much since these pickups are very sought after in your area. You can fit a kid back there :) Just takes some finagling!

oh man - don't trade it in. They like the screw ya right over if you let em. Dealerships are a bunch of 1st gen crooks! They also know how much people are selling them for.

Whatever you can get. It's going to depend on how bad somebody wants YOUR truck so start high and come down.

Yea I’m hoping it won’t be too much of a turn off to potential buyers. We’ve already got a car seat and I’ve tried a couple different ways to put it in the back and I’m just not comfortable with it. Plus, it’s almost time for a new truck anyway... lol

I’m for sure NOT trading it in. Never have, never will.

Haha I’ll post some up later, I don’t currently have any on my phone

I’ve gotten a few quotes for repair already, cheapest was $1,400. Most expensive was “I’ll have to paint the whole truck and that will run you $3-4K”

One of those things me I might not even notice the paint is a little discolored

While others will run for the hills and say you should scrap the truck.

I am a mechanical type person 1 day I might have a vehicle that is not 4 different colors on both sides

Then when you said burnt paint I am thinking from a fire

No the mirrors are the same, regular factory mirrors. I think they look different because of the lighting

Lift, sliders, skids & some other stuff.
You could do black vinyl wrap on hood and roof.

I would just start with $500 off just because that paint condition is pretty bad, then if buyer negotiates, be prepared to take up to $1000 off. If it really is in mechanically good shape, I would be patient and hold off on taking more than $1000 off to begin with.

Looks like it just needs a good clear coat. Stop by a paint shop and get a quote for new clear coat
