3rd Gen Sway Bar Quick Disconnects?

Ha. I can imagine the trainwreck that thread was!

I think I my case I don't think my truck is too bad without it is from past vehicles. Many years ago right as the buggy craze started I had a 1 ton jeep with a super flexy/soft suspension. That didn't have sway bars either. It was funny to give people rides because it would sway SO bad passengers would get scared we'd flip.

I'm shocked there aren't sway bar disconnects for these trucks. So many people ask for them. It seems like they are just popular for straight axle stuff where you'd probably see the biggest difference I guess.

 

Yeah I know for 1st gens @MatthewMay1 was supposed to come up with some, but nothing as far as I know.

 

Pretty sure the Power Wagon is uses a solid front axle, little bit of a different beast with differences in driving dynamics. Probably trickle down tech from the Rubicon.. likewise how the Tacoma got crawl control from the Land Cruiser.

 

i took mine out several months ago and have no intention of putting it back in

but yeah it would be cool if toyota had put quick disconnects on the off roads

But if you move it up and zip tie it so it doesn't drop, it will be fine during a 4wheel excursion, right? This is how I handled it on my 1st gen taco. Completely understand if you just leave it hanging but if it's tucked up and secured away, should be fine temporarily?

 

I plan to pull mine every wheeling trip, 6 bolts with an 18v Impact, I think I can even do it with my skid in place.

No reason aftermarket can't make disconnects, just like the Jeeps have.

Obviously these won't fit, but something similar.

 

Has anyone made any progress on a quick disconnect for these?

 

Learn a hard f**king lesson. Thought it wouldn't harm the boot by disconnecting one side like my 1st gen. Truck ride very smooth without...

 

All taco's do this, along with the 4runner/FJ cousins. It sucks because I sometimes remove a sway bar for diagnosing as well.

The only true disconnect is removal.

 

Hmm, I must got lucky on my 1st gen cus I had it the same way for years. Will be taking it off completely later.

I disconnected only one sway bolt. Sway bar needs to be completely off.

 

Can sway bar be removed without lifting truck or taking off tires?

 

1st gen is the only gen that can run a sway bar disconnect, as you have already noticed the sway bar will come in contact with the cv on 2nd and 3rd gens lmao

 

Well for anyone wondering. You can remove the sway bar without removing the wheels or lifting the truck. Removed mine yesterday. Rides so much smoother, not as bumpy as it used to be.
