Nope. I used a smaller hole about 4-6" away from the main harness boot.

Does it happen during regular tx or just APRS?

That’s pretty funny, hmmm- I hate those ads when I am filling up.

You should have heard what he used to do to the poor Jack in the Box employees when the car in front was ordering, it cut into their drive through intercom as well!

I started to hate waiting for food with him because he’d always mess up the drive through orders ahead of us with it. High school pranks...

You need to put either a watt meter or an analyzer on the feed line and see how the antenna is matching to the vehicle. IF the impedance is way off and/or power is being reflected back to the radio (Which I suspect) you have stray RF all over inside the cab and such. IF the signal can be effectively radiated from the antenna system this will not occur. My guess is that you have a terrible impedance match at the antenna and it is not matching to the vehicle and you have excessive RF coming back down the cable (Common Mode Current). Just because an antenna looks good where you mounted it, does NOT mean it is working properly. As an FYI I am a commercial LMR Two-Way Technician and install radios professionally, (Police, Fire, Business).

Good question. Can’t say for sure as I usually don’t have the audio player on when the rig is on, except for APRS.

    I’ll try it now.

    I don’t have a nice analyzer, just a cheapie Surecom Sw-102

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D86IKIQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I’ll hook it up again but I’m pretty sure I was putting out ~47 out of 50 watts.

Ok, so I was wrong: the interference seems to be with the truck. When the phone isn’t plugged into the truck’s USB port, and I’m connected over Bluetooth, it doesn’t happen.

If I am connected via usb, keying the mic or beaconing will either break the connection / kick the phone off of the stereo altogether, or it will cause the playback to pause or shuttle.

Sorry, I’m at a loss to help. But Perhaps finding a local repeater or RACES group to help you out will be successful - those guys will have the right equipment and would probably love to help find and take care of it. Good luck!
