    Off road tires have more rubber. Same size tire, smaller rim = more rubber. So they aren't any less tall.

    Just adding my 2 cents.

    I originally was interested in both, whatever the dealership gave me a better deal on. But after deciding on the DCLB and wanting tech/premium, the off-road's MSRP was 30 dollars cheaper. I contacted around 25 dealerships and about 5 were willing to make a good deal. My impression i got from the 5 was OR or Sport for what i wanted was going to be the same price. So why not get the Off-road features. Just my opinion.

    I had an 18 OffRoad that I ended up trading in. I did not like the auto trans, and honestly my "off-roading" is fairly limited to rough roads to get to camping spots, things my old 09 reg cab 4x4 did just fine. I wasn't going to ever really need the crawl control and MTS.

    I had a tweener car in there for a bit, but then last month went back to a Tacoma, this time with the Sport. The only reason I went Sport this time was it's the only option for a manual in the Access Cab, which is what I wanted. Having driven it for a month or so now I really enjoy it. The street ride is great, and it handles the rougher roads perfectly. Will be great for me. I think I'm mostly in the honeymoon phase now being back in the manual transmission, which is 99% of the reason I think this truck is more "fun" than the OffRoad I had. I'm pretty indifferent on the scoop, and prefer the black fender flares of the OR over the color-matched on my new Sport, but otherwise feel pretty similar in terms of day-to-day use. Love than manual transmission though!

    Locker is really the only reason to get an OR vs sport. Tires are easily swapped later down the road, stock suspension on both is weak. A set of bilstein 5100s will cost you $500-600 with install.

    I had a feeling the locker would really boost the re-sale on older Tacomas. I could see people wanting a 150k mile TRD OR with the locker for an off-road toy.

    Around here(Utah) I see way more OffRoads than I see Sports. I've always wondered what the ratio is. Maybe flat states get more sports?

    I have an 08 Sport and starting to think about an upgrade. I do a little bit of offroading. I also tow a tracker aluminum boat. My sport has worked great for me but the air damn on the 3rd gen is not going to work for me. Also, whats this about voiding warranties if you take a sport offroad?

    Doing some research and found this...CARMAX in Laurel, MD has a (BRAND NEW w Mulroney sticker) 2109 OR AC 4x4 (MSRP 37806) with NAV, BLACKOUT PKG, MUDGUARDS, BED EXTENDER, ALL WX MATS / SILL PROTECTORS PKG with 1K miles for 33408. They also have a (BRAND NEW w Mulroney sticker) 2019 Sport AC 4x4 (MSRP 37383) with NAV and MUDGUARDS for 33158. A $250.00 difference in price between the two and both are listed as new - OR is advertised as having 1K miles though.

    Disclaimer: CARMAX in Laurel, MD is a Toyota dealership. While they advertise used vehicles on TV, they do sell new models as well.
    I don't work for them, but I did buy a new RAV from them 4 years ago.

    Locker, better tires, MTS, and Crawl... I don't believe Sports have any traction management features with the exception of Auto LSD (2wd only), and basic traction control (which cuts engine power, and doesn't work in 4LO)

    These were the selling points for me on the OR.

    Taller tire, smaller rim is what you want for an Off-Road. 17" is a Sport tire. More rim, less tire for better on road handling.

    In hindsight it would make more sense to get an OR for the locker, MTS, and crawl. Personally, I just wanted the color matched fenders, rear bumper, and hood scoop more.

    Oh and also that sunglasses holder :cool:
