Help finding some good bike mounts for bed rails.

Hey hopefully some fellow bikers here have found a few different options out there that I have not been able to. So far i found the oem toyota ones(which i heard where crap) rocky mounts, and some off brand I've never heard of from REI that requires you to screw them down in the top of the rail and another from rei made by yakima that where rediculously expensive $90 each!. I just want something reasonable in price that works well and preferably a stand alone unit that doesn't require the use of the factory cleats like toyotas model. any suggestions?? Thanks

 

Rocky Mount Clutch SD...best around I think.

 

Rocky's or I think Saris makes them as well. If you are looking for just the fork mount that attaches to the front utility track, then those will work well. I had to make a nut that went in the track, so I took 3/4"x1/8" steel, drilled holes in it the same width as the fork mount, and then tapped it for bolts. Slides right in and easily stronger than the Toyota version. I have to attach a Fork Up adapter to it for my Lefty fork, but it's real solid.

 

Got mine at local bike shop. They had 2 styles lockable for 25 and non. lock for 12 or so. Got em year ago and still holding strong.

 

Yeah this is definitely the most well made looking one have seen so far. I might check out a couple of the larger bike shops in the area to see what they got. Thanks for the input all

I bought the exports from proformance cycle as well and made these, I have since shorten the plate extention by half and I have a tool box in my truck that they rest on for extra stability, But you can mount the bike rack however this is just an idea you can use..

I bought mine through Ebay for $30 each...but Deuxdiesel's idea seems to be what the seller on Ebay did. Works pretty good, just slide the piece of metal behind and screw the bolts into it from the front.

 

i have the yakima's and love them... however they came on my truck. when i get a shell, i'll be selling them....

Yup I think I'm gonna steal this idea from that ebay seller. For any of you electricians out there I am gonna try to use some unistrut nuts with a 1/4" hole. That should work perfect. or just take a little peice of aluminum barstock then drill and tap. Then i won't have to drill holes in the truck and i can move them anywhere in the rail I want. Love the idea of putting the rear tire of the bike on the wheel well Oswego.

I thought about doing something like this with a large door hinge and a spare skewer. LOL Nice fab work though. The toyota ones work on the same principal.

 

Update on the unistrut nut idea. I grabbed a couple from work today and they don't fit quite right. They are just a little too big for that sized channel. Oh well

 

Have you tried grinding them down a bit?
