As an executor of their estate bound by law it turns into a massive shit show when one of them does. The surviving parent is stuck with all the debt and the quality of their life will change drastically if not addressed at the earliest.

RVs, boats, and timeshares are giant financial burdens on fixed incomes and many look past the insanity of continuing in the hopes of getting to the other side to have something they can enjoy before handing it over to their children.

He made it sound as if he was because this would be his inheritance.

They are still living so no not his problem

And if he is that afraid of dealing with it
Ask his parents to name a different executor.

Mom has Parkinson's and dad has already had one massive aneurysm get fixed. It's getting to the point where I may be managing remotely their finances because they can't. This is one stress they don't want, and hate having to deal with it this way. I joke about inheritance - I don't need it so it will all probably go to my sister (who does). We're just trying to simplify and make continued independent living as easy and stress-free as possible. That monthly RV bill hanging over them is the last major hurdle we need to deal with, and with it gone their stress level will diminish greatly.

Getting old sucks. I refuse to.

Any time you get a wild urge to purchase an RV, go rent one.

You'll get one that is in great condition, if it breaks it's someone else's problem, and you'll spend far less and have no depreciation to worry about.

A buddy of mine bought a used RV.

Spent a lot getting it up to snuff for travels.

Every time he took his family out in it for more than a few days something broke, usually something expensive.

After the 4th big "event" he decided to sell it, at a loss of course.

Adding up what he spent and lost in the sale, he and his family could have spent every night they were out in a 5 star hotel and ate lavishly for each meal.

Granted that he might not have had the issues if he had purchased new, but the one he bought was only a few years old and he paid much less than new for it.

Being co-executor was a pita. My Dad's affairs were pretty much in order, but some companies tried their damnedest to not pay up. And my co-executor was a master at losing paperwork.

Bubby of mine bought a Class A 40ft model.

Tried to talk me into NV buying one.
    I did the quick math
125k for the unit. 15 to set it up with solar and registration.
Monthly storage fees, insurance, gas, maintenance.

Cheaper to stay in a 5 star
    No mess
    No fuss

Me and my wife have been telling my in laws for years to spend their money on themselves now, before their too old to enjoy it. I dont know why but they are more concerned about what they are leaving us then what they do for fun.

I went through something similar with my parents but it was a timeshare. At the same time my parents, an uncle and another uncle and aunt all bought timeshares. Tried to talk them out of it but couldn't. Now they can't give them away. My uncle passed, my Mom was the executor and somehow they ended up with his. Now they are paying all the fees/dues or whatever for 2. It ends up costing more for each nights stay than it would if they just booked a place, plus their chosen destination (Hawaii Big Island) takes 2 years to get a week.

Timeshares are a freakin horrible idea and I cannot believe how many people buy into them.

Extremely easy to end up that way with an RV

Incredibly bad depreciation, especially if you bought new.

You can put a big chunk down and drive off the lot and be upside down.

I've been hearing commercials for a company that helps people get out of timeshares. It may be worth looking in to

This. Depreciation moved faster than gravity in ‘09 when the housing bubble burst.

NOW they realize that the $45K 5th wheel would have been better than the $135K RV.

But...it is what it is now.

I agree. I've done cost comparisons to having a motorhome; savage depreciation, maintenance, feeding it ridiculous amounts of gas, paying for sites, dump fees, Etc., buying food on the road, listening to the wife bitch about cooking, staying at shitty main road stops as opposed to a decent hotel, and the hotels won. Unless you're addicted to the road life, I'd just rent one when the urge hit. I know some folks that just sold their house which makes money, and bought a mega 5th wheel and a Mega Dodge truck to tow it with which loses money, and hit the road. Latest word is wife aint happy. :crapstorm:

We’ve had a 32’ bumper pull and a 35’ 5th wheel. Not a single issue with either. Went all over the US in them and enjoyed every second of it. When we retire, we’ll be selling everything we own and hitting the road in a new dually and 5th wheel. Fuck paying property taxes the rest of my life.

^ That is ugly as hell, but on the other hand, it's kinda cool in a nerdy sorta way. In case people don't know, that's a front wheel drive Olds Tornado.
