Im running 700# coils on Fox Xtravel non reservoir coilovers . Alum skids, full hooped bumper/winch/syn line, sliders and a big battery. Feels great to me in the front. I have some BAMF hangers coming for the year and it should be just about right!

Those 14 inch 700#? im a little lighter right now in front with slimline but plan on adding battery setup of some sort. Leaning towards 650# 14 inch. Want ADS or Fox but want a rear swingout as well so compromises.

To what end? Typically, you only come across that on LT or SAS setups on Tacomas. A 4-link rear basically requires you to back half the truck and go to a fuel cell. 3-link can be done and retain the rear frame and fuel tank.

    Well that was educational.

How many ugga dugga’s equals 25n/m?

I grind the bolt off the access plate for the oil filter. Nothing but rust where the access and skid plate overlap. So glad I spent the money on powder coating. Not the PC guys fault. Metal to metal contact. Only so much you can do. I wonder if undersizing the access plate a bit to keep the edges from rubbing, then using a gasket to keep the flats from rubbing would be worthwhile. Or just greasing the shit out of everything.

So I remove the drain and only get a drip or two of oil. Cool. Guess the rest drained back to the pan when I opened that drain bolt. Go to undo the filter and it doesn’t move. I am looking up at it, can’t really see into the shadows due sunlight hitting me in the eyes. I am looking to see if there is some locking latch or other trick to it. Still won’t move. I had put the drain back so I removed that thinking maybe it needed to stay out or something. Nothing. Won’t fucking budge. I am about to give up and post up here asking for the secret to it when I spot my T handle wrench. Figuring that will give me more leverage without resorting to my impact wrench I try it. It moves. Yay. Finally. When the threads clear, sploosh. Fucking oil everywhere. Why the hell is anything rusted if this much oil comes out and goes everywhere at every oil change?

I let that drip a bit while I put my new Fumoto drain in the oil pan. Come back to the filter. Looking at the cap I am thinking “Hhmm, looks like this little thing is spring loaded. Wonder I push on that with a screwdriver it would drain more oil?” Of course that would have hot oil running down my arm. Stupid fucking design. I put the fresh filter in, replace the o-rings and am looking at this little plastic thing. WTF is this for. Isn’t a little plastic thing in the old filter. Kinda looks like it would fit inside the inner part of the filter but I don’t see why.

So now I am reading the instructions on the box. Cuz you know, my XY chromosomes preclude me from reading instructions before I start something. And the lightbulb goes on as I read the part about using the little plastic thingy, Toyota has a more technical name for it but I forgot it. That snaps into the cap and allows the filter housing to drain out in a nice control manner. Apparently the Toyota engineers are not nearly as stupid as I previously thought when hot oil was splashing everywhere.

So it is all back together and I am gathering everything up before refilling with fresh oil. I look at the oil pan drain plug. I look at the new crush washer that came with the oil filter. It is unneeded since the Fumoto valve came with a felt washer. I look at the drain plug again. No used crush washer on it.

FML. Visions of hot high pressure oil spraying everywhere from stacked gaskets go through my minds eye. Fuck it. I am getting a beer and will unfuck it later when it is cooler.

Welcome to the world of German car ownership in the form of a Japanese car. I nearly pulled my hair out when I saw that. I had just gotten rid of one German car because I couldn't deal with owning/working on two.

There's something better than that plastic doo-hickey. It screws up in there and has a hose for draining into a pan.

One more thing: a lot of folks change the filter housing over to the aluminum one off of some other Toyota model.

I'd have to look for all of this stuff, but I do know Amazon carries it all.
