TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Is this a chirp in the supercharger? I have a chirp in there that comes and goes, but only at idle.

 

I don't know man. Mine does it and it comes and goes as well. It's really pissing me off.

 

On/off chirp at idle here also. Don’t know what to make of it. Didn’t change when I replaced air intake.

 

It seems to be a common thing. I may have to remove the blower belt then go from there. If the sound goes away then the issue is either a bearing in the blower pulley drive setup or the belt itself. Last time I had a chirp it was the belt itself, but it seems to have come back. I'm not sure if the belt itself may require replacement again. So annoying.

 

I got all new bearings for the idlers. If that doesn’t solve it, I’m not sure what it is.

 

Coincidentally I drove without the blower belt and there was no chirp.

 

Before you guys go too deep take a spray bottle with water in it and spray the belt while it is rotating around the pulley at idle or when the issue is occuring. If the noise goes away it is the belt.

 

Spray some WD-40 on it. That stuff quiets everything .

 

Oil on the pulleys and on a belt will eat away at the rubber on a belt and can cause unwanted slipping on a rotating surface, especially one which requires surface traction in order to engage boost. I would highly advise against using WD-40 on belts and rotating surfaces.

I use motor oil. Seconds as a rust preventative and bearing lubricator. Covers everything in a matter of seconds. Like a kid in a highchair with spaghetti sauce.

 

If it squeeks after that you gots issues

 

Then you just dont feed it dessert.

 

Probably best to junk it if it keeps squeaking.

 

I second this. Every oil change I just pour a quart of oil over the top of the engine so it can really get into all the cracks and crevices and prevent rust.

 

DX it. Done.

Easy, every time you find rust, just spray paint over it. Bam, no more rust.

 

Sometimes the neighbors catch me yelling at it.
