So a friend has a Titan (is that a banned word around here?) that has a damper/spring mechanism that lets the tailgate drop slowly - you can just pull the latch and it will drop down by itself. So I get used to that, then go to the Taco, do the same thing - and bang!

Anyone fitted one to their Taco? I seem to remember seeing at thread about them on here a while ago, but couldn't find it. I have an '07 Prerunner.

Your parts guy is mis-informed. They make them for our tacomas from '05 to '08. From what I understand, the bolts can't be removed from the tailgate an the '09's.

I have the EZ-down on my 08. The bolt in the tailgate was a bitch to get out. I stripped the torx head of the bolt so I ended up drilling it out and running a tap through it to clean up the threads. I highly recommend having it on the tailgate to avoid having it slam open. I got mine on e-bay and am very happy with the final result. I been thinking of adding a second one. lol

I married my tacoma likes this.

Thanks all for your replies. How much aggro is it to disconnect (and reconnect) it when you want to remove the tailgate?

You would need to pop off one E-clip.

If you like the Titan "ez-down" go open a tailgate on the new Tundra!
You can open/close with 1 finger.

Did you just use the one made for the '05-'11 models? What did you use to trim down the tailgate panel?

    Later.

Cool...I saw the date, thought I'd take my chances.

Do you know of an alternative to the EZ Down?

I like the concept but what I don't like is how it pinches the tailgate cable. YOu have to make sure it doesn't get caught every time you close the tailgate

I've heard of people removing the cable on that side and not having issues. They probably weren't loading super heavy equipment onto the tailgate though.

I honestly think you shouldn't get them. It works but there is a trade off. The cable binds, and it pushes the tailgate more towards the passenger side(it's noticeable). It wasn't design right for the Tacoma.

I installed one on my 08, didn't last a week before I removed it.

I like the idea (especially after installing the Redline Tuning struts to the hood). But with this I "personally" think there are more negatives than positives.

EDIT: Redline Tuning Struts are the shit for the hood!
