Very nice Maner. I am chuckling a bit about the use of that mag drill to twist that small of a bit.

Of course, down your way perps do whatever they can to avoid unnecessary sweating. It's hot.

I just got done with a quick project myself. Customer wanted cross bars for his utility trailer so he could haul kayaks.

Yes. I was in a hurry. I should have noted that.

MM30A spool gun. Very fast and does a pretty decent job. Not as good as TIG, but I'm done and into beers so I call it a decent compromise.

I have used my Mag Drill for a drill press in the field pretty much the reason I have it

I think I used drill bits far more often then the normal cutters .

Just because the project is in the shop is no reason not to use them.

I will see if I can get one .

We tend to send these interesting things back so the end user can see why things did not work.

Getting Aluminum exposed to road dirt clean is just about impossible no matter what process .

Constant battle between the production side who just weld brand new material and the repair side who put up with the dirty exposed material

Actually, I do zero prep welding aluminum. I've found that there is very little difference in my welds when pre cleaned.

If tig welding I might clean up the area to welded better.

I made some rock sliders for my truck out of 1 1/4" sch 40 railing pipe.
Base coat primer: diamond vogel - endura zinc 703
Top coat: sherwin williams - acrolon 218

I dont have pics of the rest od the welds on my phone anymore but as i welded each side of the pipe joints id do then right right handed and then left, left handed.

I will try to remember to get a pic of my left and right hamded welds this coming week.

The ONLY thing these need still is some angle brackets bon the inside of the frame to make them able to take lift the weight of the truck.

Im pretty happy with them regardless - its not a rock crawler.

Cool. I'm contemplating welders since I have a bit more space at the place I'm renting now after my move. I'm trying to decide if I should just get a mig and a spool gun or a multi-process machine that will do AC TIG.

My front bumper is aluminum, and I want to modify it since the ends don't line up with the fiberglass fenders. I was also thinking that the Coastal wiy rear bumper would be a fun project, and I can get it in aluminum to match the front and keep weight down.

Built a rack for a buddies military trailer he just picked up ( sorry for the heep :crapstorm:) can't tell from the pictures, but it is able to hinge up for easier loading of the trailer. Even though the openings at each end are ~16" tall and able to get a Costco large yellow/black storage container in there...

That will work just fine on 120v power. Building tube steps it should have no trouble after you practice on some scraps.

If you decide you need more power, you can sell it and go bigger.

So I quickly googled it, some guys are running a 50amp breaker. Is that really necessary?

    No.

The 50 would be for a 240v machine. even that is overkill. just about all home use 240 v machines will rune fine on 30 amp brk/10AWG wire.

Opps, I didn't see the 120/240 option. regardless, 50 is a big breaker.

all my 240 equipment is run on 30 amp breakers. I even have the compressor and plasma cutter on 1 circuit and have never tripped a breaker.
