I bought my 16 TRD OR three weeks ago and am loving it, only one question I have about it. When I press the Push to Start button, what sounds like a small motor turning over, almost a buzzer like noise precedes the actual noise of the engine turning over. Is that normal in these trucks? This is the first one I've owned so I'm not very familiar with them. Thank you!

Yeah I had to get used to that noise as well. Like relays clicking? Not too sure what that is!

ok good to know its not something wrong with my truck then, all other push to start vehicles we own dont make any noises besides the engine starting up so this is a bit different for me lol

I believe thats because its a DI engine, I noticed they tend to have new noises. The only comparison I have is a 2010 Acura TL though.

I would imagine that is the fuel pump coming on to prime the feed line. I can't hear it in mine but I have a little hearing loss from flying airplanes for 20 years.

Pretty sure it’s the fuel pump for the DI as they run at 1000psi. It’s gonna make some noise. The port injections are much lower pressure like 60psi and you have both on the 3.5 motor.

I'm going to agree with the above, fuel pump priming the DI system.

You are hearing the steering column lock motor releasing.

OP sorry to hijack thread. While on the subject of Push to Start - Autos. Does anyone know if its possible to shift the truck into neutral without having to start the engine? Other than using the key to depress the shift lock.

I wanted to roll the truck back one foot so I could open the hood in the garage. I am used to other autos allowing this in the "on" position.

Hit the start button with your foot off the brake. That puts it in ‘Accessory’ mode. Then tap it again and you’ll be able to shift at that point.
Final tap will go back to ‘off’.

I thought i tried that. I will give it a shot later today. Thank you for the response.

I guess I ratted myself out for not reading the owners manual. @kapn.

You have an OR it appears
It has an electric operated brake pressure accumulator.
You press the brake to allow the press to start to happen, the pressure drops in the the brake accumulator, the electric pump runs to repressurize brakes.

at least 99% sure that is what is happending on mine.
