During the holidays they press the beach 2 miles north of access 6. July is usually a dry month or little rain that is, so it starts to soften up mid July till October. Stay closer to the water if your a 2 wheel drive. Follow tracks if your forced to move up. Dont floor it, just try to maintain 1000rpms steadily and ur good.

I used to hit the the beach on 255/85r16 km2's regularly in my prerunner. Like everyone's said it's all about throttle control. As a 2wd I air down before hand and never have an issue even playing in the dunes and pulling people out. 4wd you shouldn't HAVE to air down. But most certainly doesn't hurt.

 

Also as far as airing down goes 12-14psi is normally my go to range. And gets me most places as a 2wd. When sand is really soft and or I'm pulling people out of super soft sand I'll go lower.
