Finished shooting the video with Whiskey Crusaders this evening around 6:00 pm. We'll see how the final edit turns out, but we had lots of great content. The BBQ + whiskey theme was outstanding.

We tried 24 different whiskies! Small pours, we dumped the excess, had plenty to eat, and it was stretched over a few hours, so we didn't get drunk or anything, but it was a lot of great stuff to try. I'll try to list them tomorrow.

Our finishers to celebrate were these:

    20190630_174814.jpg 20190630_175707.jpg 20190630_182447.jpg

That Parker's Heritage Orange Curacao finish was incredible!

Bought several bottles of whiskey to replenish my bar and one of them was High West Whisky. Never tried it before but heard good things about it. While grilling ribs tonight I poured a glass of High West over ice, sat back grilled and sipped, and was pleasantly surprised how good it is. I’ll just keep this simple and say WOW. This is a great tasting whiskey and not pricey. Got it for around $28. Try it I think you’ll like it.

Man I left too soon! Looked like a blast and they seemed like genuinely good people.

    Plus BBQ and whiskey!

Did the whiskey profile come through at all in the que?

They are good people. Matt is very generous with his stuff, too. They were very accommodating with the video.

The whiskey was apparent in the armadillo eggs for sure and a bit in the pork belly. Not so much in the brisket, but that really only had a whiskey spritz.

That unicorn dust on the brisket.... yummmm.

Went to a company party with an open bar in NYC Saturday night; all they had for bourbon was Jack Daniel's and Basil Hayden. So obviously I spent the night enjoying Basil Hayden with 1 rock (they apparently couldn't give it to me neat or with a splash because it counted as a shot).

So every now and then The PLCB (PA liquor Control Board) does this lottery on special releases. They got Weller in this round (last one in the list)

Campfire was not for me. It had a heavy...I want to say benzocaine taste (like those instant pain relief for teeth). Is that the peaty taste?

Oh no. when you taste peat, you'll know it. It tastes like dirt. Like you ate a mouthful of earth.

There are so many different levels of peat though. Sometimes it's subtle floral smoke and other times it'll punch you in the face with a smoldering brick of sea mud and melted band-aids.

    Wut. No.

It's always reminded me more of pitchy, oily campfire smoke & iodine.

At the channel filming yesterday, we had Octomore 7.1 and Blackadder Peat Reek. Not for the faint of heart for non-peat fans.

    I loved them, though :anonymous:.

When the tasting notes are medicinal, iodine, tar, brine, kelp... nope. You can have alllll my share.
