Yes, that light will come on at regular intervals to remind you to change your oil.

Once you've changed it, search these forums for information on how to clear the light.

You might also want to search these forums for the dozens of threads discussing oil brands and filters (spoiler alert: you're not going to get a consensus answer).

Just make sure 1) you use the proper weight (5w-30), and 2) make sure you are draining the oil, not the trans fluid.

    Exactly what Ren said!
    Especially the drain plug info!!

The vast majority of oil today is of high quality. For you, 5w30 and a quality oil filter. l personally use the Toyota OEM oil filter. BUT you'll never get a consensus. Every one picks what they themselves feel comfortable with.

    Second the above post.

Oil choice is like underwear, some want Hanes, others want Under Armor, and some don’t even wear them.....

Very little difference in synthetic vs conventional. Filters on the other hand....run away from Fram and the cheap filters. Internal construction and material is sub par.

This will be another oil argument thread soon.

    OP 3 big takeaways here

    1) oil is YOUR choice, don’t believe the hype, and there is no such animal as pure synthetic FOR MOTOR VEHICLES.

    2) use a quality oil filter, Mobil, Wix, OEM.....don’t skimp here.

    3) intervals are YOUR choice do NOT listen to the negative Nancy folks here. YOU CANNOT GO WRONG FOLLOWING OEM SPECS ( that is every 5k oil change and tyre rotation)

I’m leaving now as these kinda threads get people banned and bring out the asshole lickers of the forum.

    Good luck OP.

    *sigh*

Fram is fine, FRAM ultras are arguably “better” than any of the options you mentioned.

Saying “any oil and filter will work” and then listing several that “aren’t good” kind of takes the wind out of your argument.

Any name brand oil in 5w-30 and any appropriately spec’d name brand filter will be fine.

I used only since my truck was new, Mobile 1 synthetic extended protection 5w30 up to 15k miles, with a Mobile 1 extended protection oil filter. I change oil every 8k, and get up to about an extra 2 miles per gallon freeway using these these products. I do all changes myself and I currently have 158k miles and still going strong. I recently did some work on my timing cover and took a look at my timing chain for fun, and @ 158k miles not one hint of a stretched chain what so ever.

    Fram are crap cardboard construction.

Cheap filters are cheap filters, the only wind being blown are by folks that think they are the supreme authority. That said, there is plenty of proper testing and literature by folks outside of the fan boy club that have concluded that cheap stuff like Fram are more of a hazard then a benefit. Check for yourself, all over YouTube, which seems to be the go to for mechanical knowledge these days.

See!! Everyone has their own favorite oil and filter to use. It's just the way it is.

I look at it this way. You're the one paying the bills for your truck, so use whatever you feel comfortable with. That's what l do.

I use mobile 1 synthetic with an OEM filter I also have changed out my drain plug to the fumoto valve is made things a lot cleaner if you get the one with the short nipple it hides underneath your skid plate and lessens the risk of damaging it
