Yea so left dinner Friday night and came out to see this. Car has 3000 miles.

The body shop in choosing said they have to weld in order to replace a rear quarter panel??? Is this true?

Also, your opinions... better to have them replace or repair?

If they dont weld it then you need a whole new panel. Insurance might not ok it.
I had a panel welded on an older truck and it can come out fine.

    Bummer!
The Rear bedsides are bolt on/off. not spot welded on like other manufacturers. So unless they are trying to fix yours by welding.. it’s almost easier to just swap it out. New tail, and bumper cap and you should be good to go.

Would be cheaper and easier to just swap the bedside. That would be a lot of labor hours to repair it

Sorry to hear! Was rear-ended a few weeks ago myself and using the payout for a "free" steel bumper. I'm also looking into front and rear dash cams.

Welding probably won't be needed, but while you're at it, this could be seen as an opportunity to armor up a bit...just sayin'

As others have already said, I'd just ask for a new panel, I was hit and run as an airman on base and had just bought a new car, USAA adjuster felt so bad he wrote the claim to include replacing panels, I would think the same would be for your new 19. People suck, but Karma is a b*tch and we all have to answer for our actions at some point, it'll come back to them. Hope for a fast resolution and no lasting memory of this crappy situation.

Taco Bandit from Bandit Off-road on YouTube had a very similar incident and they replaced the whole panel and it looked good as new.

If it was me i'm not going to lie i'd hit it with acetone just to see how it cleans up. If it cleaned up ok, PDR the dent, replace the tail light and dinner at applebee's invest the rest in coke and party with Gena from BWW she's the sassy one that's going to school for physical therapy.

The damage looks pretty suspect to me. That's a lot of paint transfer like someone hit something painted with latex paint, parking bollard, fence post or building

Thanks for the replies, yea I thought the rear panel was a non-welding plug n play piece. The dent is even that bad, figuring I can just order my own parts, have them paint it and install myself. Happy hour that Friday will be on the house!

My '19 got clipped by a beer truck. The body shop replace the entire bed side for this tiny ass dent. The other driver's insurance was paying so  If the truck hadn't been 5 days old I would have taken the cash and filled it with bondo.

Bonus damage. My truck got swide swiped by a hit-and-run driver a couple weeks ago. Fortunately all the damage was on one fender flare. Planning to pull it off and fix it this weekend.

Just a reminder that those malls are dangerous. Never mall crawl alone. Stay safe brothers.

    None....yet.
If im being 100% honest....it looks to me like you backed into something. You're backed into that spot, and that white paint wraps just a little around to the back of your bumper and light. No way that could have happened with you parked like that. Unless you had moved your truck before taking this pic. In which case, my bad and that sucks.

Truck is new that have to use oem parts you’ll be getting a new bedside otherwise take the insurer for the diminished value be more than the part itself.
