    The information is anecdotal so not much to substantiate. Gears break for different reasons to include bad installers.

    Having 5.29s installed today as well. Running 285/75/16s with bedrack, RTT, and sliders. Crossing my fingers and hope it turns out well. Rogue-Offroad in Las Vegas doing the install. :fingerscrossed:

    All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
    Start Craigslisting the stuff you don’t use/need. That will put a nice dent into your gear fund. I dropped some serious flow recently on armor and lights.
    However, this really a should have been first mod on my list. Thanks to all the TW peeps for picking up parts...I am very close.

    I should have some good metrics in the next couple of weeks. Looking to get about 10-15 tanks. Just mounted the ATs today. The truck looks neutered

    Hey Guys, newbie here but I am also looking at the 5.29's for my Tacoma, currently 33's but the biggest deal for me is towing a small travel trailer. Our trailer happens to weigh about 4400lbs. Pretty painful right now with the stock gears. but does anyone with the 5.29 gearing have any numbers on RPM's under a good size load at highway speeds. Right now trying to pass is horrible and I know that the new gears will help but wondering what the gas mileage will be. Thanks in advance for any info.

    I'm also curious on towing. Stock gears here at the moment, I tow in 4th gear run over 3k rpms on highway. Is it "safe" to tow in 5th gear with 5.29s being that 5th & 6th are still overdrive gears? Towing in 4th gear with 5.29s would be 4k plus by my estimation running at highway speeds.

    Hello Tacomaworld, Just got my truck back from a regear. I hear a faint roaring noise when I slow down. Not sure what it is? My mechanic pointed it out to me while we went on a test drive. Another thing is that I have a pedal commander and if I should still use it or get rid of it? Another then that I’m liking the 5.29 gears and I have to baby it for the first 500 miles and then I’ll take it in to change the oil. So far doesn’t seem to be hunting for gears like it would.

    Could be a poor setup of the gears if it was not there to begin with. Though if it is the 50ish MPH slight decel whine noise, that is normal for those gears.

    Mine whine on deceleration, I'm slightly concerned to be honest. I bought the assembled third and clamshell from ecgs so I'm hoping I shouldn't be worried about whether the gears were setup properly or not, I didn't notice it until after about 1500 miles...
