Bought a 2wd Blue Taco quickly after making a overly responsible decision to save some cash, and wishing I would have gotten the off road. Anyone else in the same boat, and have recs for tactical mods to make the 2wd all that it can be, in all its glory - without putting so much cash in to hit the base price for a new 4wd...

Why not make the best of it and make it a pre-runner build? That’s what I would do

Welcome to the site. I'm happy with my new 2 wheeler versus 4 but it rarely does anything in Tennessee where I would need it. If I do, I'll borrow my wife's Land Cruiser

Where do you live? If you live in a climate with no snow and you don't go off roading then no problem.....2wd will be fine. Since you didn't buy the Off Road to begin with I take it you don't go off road now? So again... no problem with the 2wd.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Love the 2wd. Less cost with better performance and fuel economy

Do you need 4WD? If you want to do some wheeling, just get a dirt bike or atv, then go have some fun. Honestly, I like 2-3 rated trails in the Tacoma. That’s it. Any more tougher than that, I’d rather take an atv and get through in half the time.

    Yes. I bought a 2wd 4-cylinder to save money. Within 18 mo. I converted it to 4wd. I’m a heathen though.

Austin, TX - don't need it often - you're right.

Thanks, that's a helpful comment. Was going to get Bilstein 5100 shocks and get it lifted 2 in. I guess I could add the skid plates too. Going off of this: https://www.tacomahq.com/163/what-is-tacoma-prerunner/

    What hasn't been modified?
If you find a shop that will do it, you can add a rear locker like arb.
Or go full conversion and add 4wd if you really need it

Never underestimate rwd with proper tires (in this case Blizzaks) and a locking diff.

~$2k. Probably could have done it a bit cheaper if i wouldn’t have made a few mistakes.

It’s weird, I converted it to 4wd but it still looks exactly the same ;-)

Shout out to #RandyFab in that last pic.

Awesome. That’s what’s so cool about these trucks. They can be whatever you want them to be.
