my dad has a 2009 2.7l Tacoma and it is having a very hard time starting whenever there is warm weather. Has anyone else experienced this? It starts up fine whenever it is cooler outside, but as soon as temperatures get above 75, it turns over for quite some time before it’ll crank. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I check the other threads but have not seen anything similar. Thanks in advance!

Uh, that makes no sense. Turn over and crank are the same thing.

    Any update to the issue?

After replacing the timing chain cover, a new cylinder head, head gasket, and cleaning the throttle body. I'm not sure what I might have missed.

I have the exact same truck to the year as your Dad

So, no issues cranking? How many miles on the plugs? I believe that engine has Iridium plugs; if they have over 70K, pull them to check the gaps. Clean MAP sensor. And as post #6 suggested, a bad sensor could be faulty; something a mechanic can check with a fancy code reader that can test individual sensors.

Plugs are new and gapped correctly, check throttle body and MAF with a tester per another post, fuel pressure is good, no visible leaks, no mods to engine, timing is correct, reset PCM multiple times by leaving battery d/c overnight AND did a pcm fuse pull try as well.

The truck will ONLT START on a hot day if I hold the pedal at wide open throttle. Still long cranking and hard start. If cooler temp outside it'll fire right up.

Does it start up good 1st thing in the morning no matter if it is hot outside?

When it has this problem, how long ago did you last drive it? Is it hard to start after sitting for an hour?

Leaky injectors make an engine hard to start if it was shut down and only sat for an hour or so.

Like @wilcam47 said, it could be leaky injectors.

It's temperature outside dependent. If it's hot, you have to do WOT (Wide Open Throttle) to get it to hit and start, if it sits 1hr or 15hrs still WOT to start UNLESS COLD TEMPS outside.

No check engine lights. Reset PCM/ECU/Computer (w/e you wanna call it) at least 5 times

What does the exhaust smell like? Raw gas or just regular exhaust fumes?

It appears this thread has been stolen by pv2smurf, beginning at post #7. I was directing my questions to the OP, but pv2smurf replied and took it from there. They may, or not, have the same issue. It appears too involved for this forum.
