This would actually be nice for us.
We can sleep in the top and let the dog sleep down below in the bed of the truck.
If we did that now he gets a little freaked out if he can’t see us. Mr. Protector likes to see his sheep.

One thing nice about the 2" dual layer foam is that it stows better and is easier to move around. I didn't fine it much harder than the 3". Nevertheless, I supplement it with an 1" inflatable backpacker's pad. I'd prefer some other alternative pad maybe resilient foam.

Keep in mind that memory foam is temperature-sensitive. It feels soft in warm temperatures, but can feel like a rock in cold temps. I've always used 1" latex toppers in my RTT and van mattress' on top of the standard foam. My wife thought our Autohome mattress was too firm, as well as our campervan mattress, but the latex topper made all the difference. I think we got our topper from sleeponlatex.com. You should be able to cut it with a good pair of industrial shears or electric carving knife.

Anyone here buy the ladder from GFC? I’m debating spending the $150 Vs. a $70 generic collapsible ladder from Amazon. The language on GFC’s website is a bit confusing:

“Proprietary extrusion design allows for the ladder to be mounted along the length of the tent once opened.”

Dies that mean the ladder must be clipped in to the extrusion before you climb it? The pic on the website doesn’t show the connection.

I saw this the other day and wanted to say thank you very much for posting this. I had installed a set of Caliraised bed molle system and was worried that it might interfere with my GFC installation. With the measurements you posted I found out that there was going to be a problem, but with a little modification of the mounting of the molle, I could remedy the situation. Thanks again.

You’re not the first to ask about those.
Im not sure if anyone ever did supply measurements of those panels.

I haven't used my ladder yet because I'm waiting for my new tent with side access, but it is basically the generic ladder with a hook attachment to the end. The hook secures over the lip of the lower part of the tent when it is opened.

    Similar to this one https://www.amazon.com/WolfWise-Alu...ft&qid=1562030131&s=gateway&sr=8-3&th=1&psc=1

That was the ladder I was looking at on Amazon. I think I’ll go that route and fashion my own hook, if I even need to.

I just bagged my truck this past weekend. Firestone Ride Rites...

Install was super easy (much easier if you use your factory leaf packs!!!) i had to weld in an extension to mine in order for the brace to reach the axle (since my leaf pack is MUCH thicker) that said I really like them. Not sure they’re needed with just a GFC but weight adds up fast. FWIW mine is being designed around my new setup that’s in excess of 1000lbs hence the need for bags.

I did the DayStar Cradles while i was in there too....

Nice write up on the Firestone Ride Rites. Great pictures too. When do you get the new rig?

It’s basically that exact ladder but with a bracket riveted to it. It’s a piece of sheet metal with a slight bend so it can hook onto the extrusion. You could definitely fashion something yourself. It does do a good job of keeping the ladder secure even when the feet are on uneven ground though.
