Hi Guys - long time lurker here, and have enjoyed many of the various tips provided on this site. Today I'll offer one of my own that I experimented with yesterday with good results. As I was getting ready to do an oil change I got an idea from the no-drip spout of the oil container and thought maybe it would help to make something like that for my filter mount?

I know some guys use funnels, some use plastic bags, etc - but it seems some oil always manages to find it's way down the neck of the mount, no matter what. So I cleaned the mount and rearranged the ground clamp. Then I applied some plumbers epoxy putty to the neck and molded a lip in it, with a 'spout' at the center of the lowest point.

Then I just positioned a small cup under the filter while unscrewing it - not a drop anywhere, and no runs! The big question of course is how well will the putty stay stuck to the mount? Time will tell, but as long as you clean the surface well and smush it into the surface you should be good. That putty will withstand pretty good temps. Anyway, that's my offering - yeah, hope it works for you!

P.S. - sorry for the huge pics, still trying to figure out the site's submittal system ;-)

I really need to do this. I've tried every trick I've heard of from removing the oil filter with a plastic bag condom to poking a hole in the filter so the oil drains out and haven't had any luck not making a phucking mess anyways

I forget, either Summit or Jegs. Both sell them as well as other performance part suppliers. They sell kits but I didn't buy a kit, just the pieces I wanted as they come in different configurations.

Removing it from a cold engine that hasn’t ran in 12+hrs, but it will take longer for the oil to drain from the pan if you have the time.
