2009 Tacoma Satellite Antenna Location

I've seen some other questions (including my own) on how to use the prewired satellite antenna on 2009 tacomas. Here is the answer:

1. access the left side kick panel. The satellite antenna connector is square in shape and is gray in color:



2. You need this part:

It is the vais tech SFA12M (vaistech.com)

3. Plug it in like this:



4. Connect the other end to your XM or Sirius receiver.

I believe they are going to hook the antenna up to the satellite receiver...which is not integrated into the stereo. You then hook the cable from the satellite receiver to the head unit. I think they did it so all they have to do is connect the cable to the head unit since there is room to mount the receiver behind the kick panel. In my case I am going to put the receiver behind the kick panel, connect the satellite antenna to the receiver, connect the receiver to the Eclipse control unit, and run the cable from the contoller to the AVN6620. Additionally, the cable of the SFA12M is long enough that if you wanted to put the receiver behind the head unit, under a seat, behind the glove box, etc. there is enough room to do it.

This is a way to hook your satellite receiver to the stock antenna so you don't have to use an auxiliary antenna.

I merely posted it to help others that may want to have a clean install. Hopefully it doesn't turn into a debate on Toyota engineering inefficiency

 

Somebody with more experience than me will have to answer that. I assume a GPS antenna is way different than a satellite radio antenna based on the type of signal a GPS antenna has to gather.

 

Hey there, first post, in fact my Tacoma is still on a truck coming to my dealer, just surfing and planning ahead. My dealer said the antenna is only for XM, which I was bummed about because my Eclipse deck I'm going to install is Sirius. Are you sure you can hook up Sirius? If so, you just made my day! AWESOME!!! Thanks for the pics and info, that's really helpful for my install!

Has anyone tried this out with a Sirius radio yet? Would like to make sure it works before I place my order.

 

The website promotes their antenna adapter as follows:
NOTE: SFA12M could be used for both XM and SIRIUS radio integration

Now that Sirius and XM are one and the same, I can't imagine their product line is going to be too much different from here on out.

 

I'm still waiting for the first 09 Tacoma to use it for XM, I'm planning my stereo install and have the shark fin adapter on my list to try and make work. Does anyone know when the merger will be final? Looking forward to having Sirius back in my truck!!!

Is the antenna connection there on vehicles that do not come with the JBL system?

 

Yes, I do not have the JBL system but have the sat antenna stuff inside, just need to get the adapter!

Great, thanks for the quick answer. Now I just need to decide what head unit I am going with, order my Sirius and the adaptor. I am so happy to be getting rid of XM. I had it with my Honda and I hate it, the programming just doesn't compare to Sirius.

 

Agreed, but isn't the merger going to affect the programming? I'm hoping that the merger will just benefit XM users to better programming! Either way, the sound quality and no commercials beats FM any day!

Check out the Eclipse 6620 if you're going to do a double din stereo. Post up when you get your install done.

Anyone know if this XM interface connection is inside of a 2007 Tacoma?

Awesome, I'm looking forward to your feedback. I'm about a month from installing my stereo and am curious how the merger of XM/Sirius will affect the compatibility of the antenna, since it's labeled as a XM antenna but I'm positive that Sirius will work with it but want to know the full set up will work. I ordered a Kenwood DDX712 and the Sirius radio for it so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I am actually more worried about getting the PAC PWI-JACK steering wheel control adapter to work. I really missed having the steering wheel controls on my 2005 Tacoma with the Pioneer head unit.

 

Don't forget the iPod adapter too, for $30, it's a great add on!
