I'm not complaining, I got a bare bones TRD OR 4WD DCSB AT, similar to yours ($38 or 39k MSRP) for $33.2k before TTL, took the 2.9%@60mo but hoping to have it paid off sooner. They do the same nonsense here, they add window tint and door edge and handle cup ppf on everything here.

I rounded up my payment to $410, now the monthly amount due is down to $402. I'll keep paying $410, will probably shorten things up 2 months or so.

Totally agree. I thought it was odd that they even offered it. I guess they use it as a chance to get financing. The finance guy played the zero percent offer down before pulling my credit saying "Very few people qualify for it, but we do have some very attractive rates". He talked up the value of keeping my money and that financing would be a better way to go. I played along and he pulled my credit report and then started talking about how paying cash might be better.

It is funny how it works. It wasn't easy in my 20s and 30s not going out an running up a lot of debt and watching my friends with their fancy cars and toys. Now the roles have reversed and my toys are much nicer and cooler than what they had. Although the women aren't quite the bikini type anymore.

GREAT POLICY FOR LIFE!!!! I certainly did not live by that during my early years however. I've tried to teach that to my kids (16,17 and 18)- I told them the ONLY exception would/could be a home and never more than a 15 year mortgage (when that day comes). My oldest was accepted to many great schools (Cyber Security/Math major) - however because of my income many would not offer full scholarships...so not wanting debt she kept researching - she got a full ride at a Tier 1 school (ranking highly in her field) and because of her ACT Score (34) got a FULL RIDE - no debt. My son is deciding now (probably West Point or Air Force Academy). NO DEBT is KEY!!!! CASH IS KING!!!!!!!!

Bought mine last Halloween, picked it up the next day. Made my first payment of $350 in December, made a payment of $4,200 in January...a years worth. Paid $700 in February.

I hadn't made car payments since around 1978...they suck!

Paid the fucker off with my March payment.

Obviously there are many people making huge money off the stock market. It’s been been going on forever and call me an old school dinosaur who just doesn’t understand the Ins and outs of the financial system but to me investing is not all that different from gambling. And I hate gambling.

Yes I know there are tons of places you can invest with very little risk but personally I just try to stick to the old rule of spending less than I have coming in and staying out of debt to the best of my ability. Maybe I’ll never get rich but it seems to work for me.

It can be like gambling if looking at individual stocks. I would say an index tracker is a pretty safe bet such as tracking the S&P 500. Pulled from Investopedia:

"The S&P 500 Index originally began in 1926 as the "Composite Index" comprised of only 90 stocks. According to historical records, the average annual return since its inception in 1926 through 2018 is approximately 10%. The average annual return since adopting 500 stocks into the index in 1957 through 2018 is roughly 8% (7.96%)."

There are definitely periods that have sucked though. Not anything recent but it looks like a bear market started in 1968 and took until 1992 to fully recover. We probably have a lot more fuckery from the Federal Reserve bank now than we used to have so that could be better or worse. Looks to be better so far.

The simplest approach for us younger guys is dimple dollar cost averaging into a S&P500 ETF such as SPY. Just keep buying over time. Eventually should pay off. Downturns allow you to get in cheaper. Say your are throwing $100 a week in and shares are $100. So you buy 1 share a week. Well when market crashes and they get down to $50, you get to buy 2 each week. When it recovers back to $100, you have even more money. Multiplies.

My personal theory is that if the market crashes and never recovers, then you probably don't care about money and care more about taking over your neighbors resources. Or defending yours from him.

But spending less than you make is also critical. Also time horizon sucks. I can look back at lots of things I could have done differently if my stupid ass thought about my future self. Probably have some nice large piles of cash. Oh well.

I love reading threads where people stroke their ego. Oh man I’m so wealthy and have so much money and buy everything with cash in a briefcase cuffed to my wrist.

One thing I’ve learned over the years, people who truly have money don’t talk about it.

Man I’m so rich with so much of the money!

Saved three years for the down payment.

i bot my 1st gen brand new off the lot 266 months ago now ... had a small trade in I had been paying off for 2yrs prior
definitely i remember the summer of 1998 breaking my neck @ 15hr workdays 5 days a week for 75hr weeks all hot summer sweating to bust out some double payments, interest rate was about 7.5% then (if i recall correctly)
it has been very nice not having truck payments for about 18yrs now! but the fuel fillups are another story... used to take about $15 to fill the tank, now it takes damned near $50 !!!
... now I am needing to replace the weathered beater 90s Corolla (store and back car) so am trying to figure out how much cash down onit and finance the rest on a snazzy new Corolla hatchback with the MT of course!

For those of you that have paid off the truck why not continue making payments to yourself to build up savings for the next vehicle? Keep your current Tacoma till you have enough in the vehicle fund to pay cash the next time. Unless a dealer is offering 0% and a great deal cash purchase is the way to go with a depreciating asset. Even Tacoma's loose value over time.

yes, I listen to Dave Ramsey from time to time.:D

Where are the threads where people are paying $590 a month on a 72 month truck loan, that are renting a apartment or house. Then max out their credit cards on mods.

Can't remember ever seeing such a thread, but I bet there are several that could post in it.

Big difference between saving and being smart with money, than with it just falling in your lap.
