So, perhaps I might retain propane on this truck. I actually do like the idea, I just don’t like the amount of bed space, which is at a premium, that it takes up.

Supposing I were to install an ASME lpg tank. What do I need to look out for? Are these type of tanks something that I can refill at a gas station that sells propane by the gallon? What are the certification details?

Yeah I just recharge my spare AGM battery with the DC solar charger and run all external electronics off the spare battery.

Solar is great for recharging these batteries. I’ve also got a small gas generator, if needed which will run the VTanks 14.7 battery charger (115V) in case there’s no sunlight.

Not sure if this is overkill for you, or something you would consider... This is in my truck 100% of the time, but obviously I've got a "canopy".

It's a simple plywood box with a house battery (x2), battery isolator, fuse panel, battery charger, and battery switch. And if you can't tell from the pic, my fridge is huge (75L dual zone) and I can easily run it a couple days @ 32 degrees without putting out my solar or running my truck, in 70-90 degree weather. In fact, I can't remember the last time I've charged the batteries with my truck. I usually just plug the charger in the day before I leave to top them off, and also make sure my fridge is cold before I leave.

It may look like a lot of work, but it just took some time. Now that it's in I've added 12v outlets and usb ports for running camp lights and charging phones. It's been great. Obviously you could probably get my with something smaller, unless you want a LOT of storage. We often just use half of the fridge, using the other half as dry storage (we can control the temps separately or just shut off one side completely).

I bet the Yeti 1000 Lithium would make your life easy. That and an ARB 50Qt and you'd be golden. Could add a solar panel at some point to help out.

When all was said and done, my system was about the same cost as the Yeti 1000, but the Yeti has about 20% more usable capacity than my 2 batteries combined since it is lithium. And you could easily move the Yeti around, too. Use one of them REI coupons on it and you'd save a bundle, too!
