Where is the recommended fluid change schedules so many of you are following doing them well below 10k miles and such?
Axles, manual transmission, transfer case?

10k for oil... I've been doing 15k and Blackstone says all is well.
I would say an initial change on both diffs is a good thing, then run with it... Manual lists 60k for extreme usage on other fluids and no interval for normal usage. This is honestly pretty safe to follow.

 

Dunno the recommended...I did mine at 100K kms (60K miles) cuz 100K is a nice round number

 

We sure this is correct for 4WD?

Rotate tires - every 5k or 6 mo

Front to back/back to front on each side
Lug nut torque - 83 lb-ft (21mm)
Check torque ~1000 miles after rotating

Im going to follow my Owner's Manual (which mirrors the above), but if you check the web, there are equally posts saying the above to X them to rear go straight, then the fronts get Xed.

 

Since buying BFG KO2 I have followed this with good results at least for BFG tires

Thanks, but to think of it, since we drive in rear-wheel drive 99% of the time, we should probably use rear-wheel instead of 4x4 (?). Also, it contradicts our owner's manual.

 

I have been using the 4x4 for last 6 rotations and tires have very even wear. According to firestone when I had truck in to check alignment and straighten wheel was told no need to rotate this time tires have same wear all the way around. I rotated them anyway, so I guess its working at 30 K on them so far.

 

A few questions. Would be a good thing to fill the complete 6.2 qts for a tow package V6 or is 6.0 qts even more than enough. I have some left of reDline 0w20 that is still pretty full from my last oil change and I'm not sure to use it because it's been sitting in a small tool Locker in my backyard a for a couple. I also don't want open another new bottle and have a bunch left over and then not be sure if it safe to use in the next oil change.

 

I can't answer your first question but as to the opened left over oil, as long as it is clean, unused, I can't see why you couldn't use it. I am about to change oil in my MR2 with some unused left over oil that is over a year old.

 

I have a 19 SR access cab 2wd v6, getting ready to change rear diff fluid. How much fluid does it take. I have looked over the chart but I guess I’m a little confused with it.

im going to assume since you have the 2WD V6 with the smaller 8" rear diff with no rear differential, you probably take about 3qts. I'm not sure myself but I'll try to find out exactly.

Ok, I'm going to assume that all V6 trucks by default take atleast 3.1 qts. (Except for Manual transmission which take 4.0qts)The only exceptions are for the model numbers on that list, which you don't even have, these are the models shown:

GRN310L-PRTSHA, GRN310L-PRTLHA
GRN330L-PRTSHA, GRN330L-PRTLHA

The the exceptions listed are all V6 Double Cab Long beds. Some 2WD and some 4WD. For some reason the DCLBs take a little extra fluid.

The Standard rear diff for 2WD/4WD and no diff lock is 3.1qts, UNLESS you have one of those models listed above(which are all DCLB V6 2WD or 4WD) in which case you need 3.22qts

If you have a rear differential lock, (TRD OR and Pro only) then you need atleast 4.0qts, UNLESS you have a DCLB with rear diff lock, then you will need 4.2qts

So the basically:

*2 is for most vehicles
*3 is for DCLBs
*4 is for differential lock trucks
*5 is for DCLBs with differential lock
And all MTS take 4.0qts

 

I appreciate the excellent response! I kinda thought it was 3.1qts, but just wanted someone else’s opinion.
I also was gonna measure what came out. I have a 6qt bucket with the scale on the side.

 

I'm at 52K and just did my 5K OLF, and did my 50K diffs and xfer.
Front diff was definitely dirtier...

BTW, I relocated the breather about 8K ago.

 

I've gone through the thread and have found no discussion on the timing belt/chain and the Maint booklet doesn't mention a replacement interval. Has anyone owing the service manual seen this info? If someone has already done the service/replacement, what was the cost if done by a Toyota shop.

Edit: I was able to download the service manual and it looks like the Taco has two timing chains. My guess you don't replace them unless either one has failed?

 

I don't think there is any interval for servicing the timing chain on this motor. Unlike a timing belt, timing chains are usually a one a done part as long as the motor has been properly operated/maintained otherwise.
