This will be my first 1st gen, and super excited. I know exactly which one I want. Would like it to be MT V6 the most!

Access Cab 4x4 V6, MT, TRD OR
Double Cab 4x4 V6, AT, TRD OR
Access Cab 4x4 I4, MT with aftermarket locker.
Access Cab 4x4 V6, AT, TRD OR

The rusted frame problem is only a concern on the 95-01ish or is it all first gens?

Ah, the ol' "No Haggle" pricing scheme. I usually avoid these type of dealerships in general. There is no way that truck is worth over $10k though.

I know first gens are cool trucks, but personally I'd think long and hard about ever dropping that kind of money on what is really an old, relatively uncomfortable, spartan, and no-where near current safety standards vehicle. That said, that one, which looks like it had a fire on the roof... no freaking way. Lord only knows what other "experiences" it's had. Don't forget car dealers pretty things up to sell them.

I originally liked the idea of it, but second guessing it now.

Fair point on the safety standards. I would love to have the newer feature of an eyesight camera. Oh and side air bags would be cool too.

Me too. Except when the price is ok. Just bought from one of these, because I was a) interested in the vehicle and b) they had it priced at Edmunds Private Party level, and c) it turned out they made it a CPO and included a 7 yr 56k driveline warranty. Not something I was interested in (warranty) but hey........

So it *can* work out ok. But clearly proceed with caution.

Plus keep in mind most of us aren't nearly the negotiator we think we are. ;)

@4XMountains if you can find that truck on something like CarGurus, you can mark it to send you updates like price changes and it will monitor how long it's been listed. That truck will only sell at that price to a nut case. The price will drop and the longer it sits the lower it will go. Then the it's 'time to auction trigger' will get pulled.

If you have a body man friend, take them to look at it and see if the roof is just ugly. Or shot.

You'll likely end up passing on the truck as others suggest, but you can dig a bit deeper, and it will sell cheaper. Regardless of the 'rules'.

Funny. Recently took a pass on a vehicle equipped with such. Not confident on the function being ready for prime time nor the durability of the hardware.

I’ll take a look on CarGurus. One of my friends uses it a bunch.

Maybe the Toyota eyesight tech isn’t ready yet, but Subaru seems to have a good handle on it. My mom has an outback with it and it seems to work well.

All first gens. And definitely do not dismiss the LBJ issue as well.

Exactly. But remember that trucks often move so dont assume that the truck frame will be fine if it is from Cali. I have seen a handful of 1st gens in cali that look like the definition of rust. But yes, @FreshOldTaco is right; primarily trucks in the rust belt are the ones suffering.

Very true, every truck needs to be thoroughly checked... smack the frame with a hammer to make sure it's solid.
