I have an 03 Tacoma with a 3.4 in it. I’m wanting to put a 4.7 tundra motor in it. The Toyota delarship says if I get the same year motor I wouldn’t have to change the wiring harness. Just wanting to get yalls opinion on this. It worth it? And if anyone in here has done it could you give me some tips? Also if I don’t decide to do that specific swap, what should I do for a budget build for a motor?
    Thanks

Do a 2JZGTE swap. Oh wait, you're lifted. Uh, there was a guy that did an LSX swap a while back on CT. In fact, on Youtube, Tom's Turbo Garage is doing a swap right now with that motor I believe into a Tacoma.

I don`t know enough about the 4.7 engine.

If it has the same sensors as the 3.4 I could see it might be possible to install the bare long block and use your engine harness all the sensors and the ECM

Being Toyota I can`t see it being that easy .

The fact your going from a 6 cylinder to a 8 cylinder tells me the people at the dealer misunderstood your question or had no idea

The extra 2 injectors have no spot on your ECM.

This is going to be like any other swap merging the 4.7 Engine Harness and ECM to your truck .

Whoever told you that is full of it because that is entirely false. You need to change the ECU, engine harness, and merge the body harness to get the Tundra motor to work. You can’t just plug in the 5VZ harness into the 2UZ and hope for it to work.

I seen the video about the guy putting that lsx motor in. I just don’t wanna switch around everything from Toyota to Chevy but from what y’all are all saying I would have to switch around things regardless with the ecu and harness. Idk what else I could do for an engine swap.

There is no easy, bolt-in, cheap, or any combination thereof engine swap out there. If you're looking for more power, you should do a turbo. Cheaper and easier.

Put a Tesla rear motor chassis rack in it.

If we're going for simpleness here, just Supercharge it and call it a day. Easiest way to get more power, 100% bolt on.

Used, maybe $1,500-$2,000. They come up on here every so often. LC Engineering sells them new for $3,000.

That's not as simple as a supercharger. Sure, you can make much more power and for cheaper - however it's not at all bolt-on. Requires knowledge of boost and mandatory tuning. You also need to know fabrication skills, and welding.

Don’t know if you need emissions testing out there. Can’t do certain engine swaps and turbo things in some places, most notably California.

I got a buddy with a 00 Tacoma and pulled a turbo of a little Kia or voltswaggon I think. I’m not sure what vehicle it was but he pulled one from a junk yard and put it on his Tacoma. So that’s where I got the idea from

It's a bit harder to get results from a turbo without tuning. Sure, you can see noticeable results with a turbo (as well as a supercharger) on there; however you're retarding a lot of power potential without the mods like methanol injection, higher capacity fuel injectors, piggyback ECU, etc etc etc.

I'm not the most qualified person to be talking about boost, but it's definitely not a bolt-on bolt-off affair.

So my best bet for more power and for the price is to just get a supercharger?
