I installed X, Y, and Z while still in the parking lot of the dealership on the day I bought the truck. Haven't look back since.

All stock here except for accumulator delete and stock sized DuraTracs.

I'm not expecting it to be perfect either, but this stuttering (in my case) is very noticeable. Full disclosure, it's been there in some form from factory fresh and all the way though every version of the tune EXCEPT one test file and 1.04B/C. Matt is aware of my truck's particular issues lol.

    A VERY good point lol.

They failed miserably with their canned shit.

I still suspect that part of the reason the stock tune is so numb is to glaze over all the inconsistencies from truck to truck. Toyota HAS to know about this.

I have to ask as a curious observer, how did soooooo many of you develop such fine, boutique taste for this trucks ECU management and transmission behavior, when the pedals dont even line up for rev matching? Like what are you actually doing with this truck that is SOO hindered by the factory maps, and so necessary to tamper with the ECU that must be addressed by this wacky tuning software that give you any advantage that isnt utterly negated by the fact you cannot heel-toe or properly rev match down shifts?

So if essentially this ECU software is addressing upshifts and powerband, what are any of you doing about the most important aspect, the 'downshift'? Because none of you have addressed the physical limitation of the truck (the pedal alignment) that would warrant any ECU/Transmission management in the first place......

Since you asked.... I have no issues rev-matching in this truck despite the fact that "the pedals don't even line up". It's a truck, not a racecar. The issue is with Toyotas implementation of torque limiting throttle control. The truck just falls on it's face when trying to accelerate from a stop. For instance, if you're trying to turn left through a break in traffic. You give it some gas, get rolling and have the clutch all the way out and no matter how much skinny pedal you give it the truck refuses to accelerate for 1-2 seconds. Downright dangerous.

The other limitation is with the accumulator mounted down near the slave cylinder. I found that to be the cause of most of my shifting and rev-matching issues, not the tune. Deleted that and i'm a happy camper.

The tune also gives predictable throttle behavior. I know a lot of people here have an issue with rev-hang but I personally don't find it to be that bothersome.

    *Edit to add*
Many of us don't have the tune for power gains, although that is a nice bonus. We aren't really looking to wring out every last HP out of this motor. We want a truck that isn't schizophrenic and unpredictable. Others here are looking for power, but I think overall the majority of people just want a truck they can drive and not be constantly wondering what it will do next.

Even if the pedals were aligned for heel/toe, the damn brake override warning would show up.:frusty:

I agree with lapoltba - it's not about wringing every last bit of horsepower out of this truck, its about eliminating the ridiculous behavior in a modern day truck (hesitation, unpredictable throttle, terrible idling, etc.) My truck "learned" these behaviors several weeks after I bought it.

As did many others I'm sure. I was just making a general statement of opinion not based on any facts. The point I was trying to make is that the one thing I believe we all have in common, is wanting our trucks to drive like a normal vehicle and not have to constantly try to adapt to whatever the hell it is doing at any given moment. I doubt more than a few (if any) of us are using our Tacomas at track days or trying to make a run up Pikes Peak.

show me how you are doing that. Because its not possible to heel-toe, or even instep-toe in this truck. Its physically not possible. And I'm well aware its not a race car, which begs the question even more how you are doing this?

And I dont know what "brake override is" is this some nanny feature on all the 2018+ models? Why would a 2018 guy "bang his head on the wall" because of brake override?

I just wonder how some of you are so incredibly, almost unbelievably sensitive to the ECU and Transmission patterns of this truck, when you arent even capable of the single most important MT action (rev matching). I have a 2017 (Texas made) 6mt, with the TRD exhaust and TRD intake I had installed at purchase of the truck new and experience literally NOTHING in this thread that is reported (other than rev-hang, which is an emissions thing). So I dont know if, because my truck initially 'learned' everything on the TRD exhaust/TRD intake combo, this made a difference or not...

Like what kind of drivers are you? What type of vehicles did you come from that could possibly give you the idea there are all these software problems to fix? how is my experience so different from the people in the thread. Is my truck special? is every truck after 2017 messed up? Im so so confused how you guys have such intense, boutique experiences with this truck regarding the ECU and Transmission, and myself ( I consider my self a 'good' driver, and have driven manuals my entire life, I owned a 2005 STI I had for 9 years before my 6mt Tacoma, and before that other MT's.) have experienced none of it.

Take your condescending attitude back a notch. I never said I was doing heel-toe. I said I can rev-match.

One does not imply the other. You can easily blip the throttle to bring up the engine RPM for downshifting without ever touching the brake. If you want to nit-pick, this is a MT thread and there is no computer nonsense going on in our transmission.

I'm glad you're happy with your truck. Not everyone else is. I too have been driving manual transmission vehicles (all I have ever owned), for going on 16 years now. This truck is weird. It is also well known that there is a lot of variability in how different trucks behave. Be happy you got a good one.

brake override is a nanny feature. brake at the same time as throttle shuts it down, even a little brake. It doesn't like opposing velocity control inputs.
I come from "old school" direct linkage, (and cable), throttle. push the pedal and get a proportional reaction in engine rev. let off and the engine winds down in direct response.
The manual transmission vehicle I am most recently exposed to, was bought new and is still in my garage for sunny day driving is a Lingenfelter tuned 1998 WS6 ls1 Non accumulator hydraulic clutch .

if you ever drove the original factory maps in a MT that lead us to get all excited about OV initially, then you wouldn't have to ask the question. consistent throttle control was so bad that i could barely drive the thing in any kind of smooth and not horribly choppy way, and i wasn't alone.
