Okay, here’s what has worked well so far for me. Black leather shoe cream. Yep! You read it right! And it might have just saved my life! I wish I had taken a before pic except then my hubby might see it and kill me despite my handy work!
I read all yer posts and Certainly didn’t feel safe with the heat gun. And I just couldn’t bear to leave it as it was for constant reminder of my stupidity! I was helping a friend move and packed the front seat too tight and something sharp was apparently slid up against the dash. Gouged and scratched all across glove box and to corner below control panel of my Brand new 2019 Taco! I was sick! This technique has certainly eased my pain.
I used the smooth rounded edge of a plastic spoon to push the displaced plastic back together and make the areas look as level and flush as possible by using it to burnish with. (Man, that dash plastic is soft! And it has a bluish color where it gets scraped!) Anyway, I then took Black shoe cream and put it just over the still visible or blue areas and then wiped it off any excess. Allowed it to dry then buffed it a tiny bit with a soft cloth. SO MUCH Better! At least it’s hardly noticeable now and my stomach won’t feel sick every time I get in my truck. We’ll see how long it takes for my hubby to notice and how it fares through time! Keep you posted!

Lol just a josh, I just didn’t notice anything in the pic. But! You should see my truck, I’d hardly notice a katana swing.

How is it that some people have that kind of grippy, textured material on the dash (directly above the glove compartment)? In my truck it's a smooth vinyl/fake leather material.

It would help the skeptical viewer if there was a before along with the after picture. But it is not too late, you can remedy that by scratching again? Or not. We believe you.

I wonder what determines it. I feel like I've looked at a lot of TRDs that have the same material as my SR5. Every once in a while though someone here will post an interior pic and they'll have that textured, rubbery covering.
