My 2016 TRDOR, with 31k miles, is in for 2nd time with this same leak. They supposedly fixed it a little over a year ago. Week before last, I come out for work after an all night thunderstorm, and my backseat is soaked.
I took the truck in(to a different dealer) last Monday. I was told the part was back ordered, and it would be 10-14 business days. They put me in a Sienna, as no trucks or suvs were available.
Hope they get it quick. Not being able to go fishing/hunting sucks!
I might have to plan a trip with the wife and kids while we have a van though.

Same thing happened to mine. Third brake light gasket leak. 23k miles. Dealers replaced complete new
light unit. No more leaks. Crossing fingers still, cause gasket can go bad anytime?

Well looks like i have the 3rd brake light leak! Just turned 29,000 miles no leaks until last weeks trip to Sedona hit some heavy rain and then when parked over night in Sedona we got some heavy rain and light dusting of snow. I have a water stain on the rear headliner mostly center trailing to the passenger side of cab. No wet seats or seat belts so i hope its just in the headliner at this point! Now to have to go to the dealership and deal with there BS!

I have a 2016 TRD OR and it the break light issue was fixed a year ago, then again a month ago. Currently the truck is in the dealership again because of the same issue. They mentioned about changing the headliner, carpet and seat cushions. When I dropped it there was another one in the shop with the same issue. Hope it get fixed correctly this time.

    Fuk......my turn!!!

Looks to me like it's the slider, I don't see anything on the liner, it's all along the bottom
of the window, been storming like a bitch in Va., back seats are soaked, water all over the
back wall as well. Storms are supposed to go another week here and it's currently pouring
hard - Taking it in @ 8am today - this sucks!

edit: just checked - headliner is soaked as well this time.

Well after almost 3 years of ownership I now have this problem, just started today during a heavy rain storm. I am way out of warranty so I'm hoping Toyota still covers it. I'll call the dealership tomorrow to see what's up. I also have a 2016 SR5 double cab. Old Post I know but I didn't wanna start another thread and get yelled at by upper management here. Lol. I'll keep y'all posted.

Good luck, it’s a known issue, you should be good if you’re within your warranty mileage.

    Same issue here,
16 TRD O.R. dbl cab, going in tomorrow morning. Hopefully they will fix it for free. If not I'm getting a tube of black caulk/silicone and fixing it myself :welder:

I did it to my Colorado and it looks OEM, you would never know. Thing is more water tight than anything.
It's all in the prep work and clean up.

So because I am at 49K miles they would not do it for free and quoted me $500+ to fix. Seriously!?!

They said there might be a TSB and would look into it but called me and let me know I was out of warranty.
How can I check to see if there is a TSB for sure?

Understand you are out of warranty and bumper to bumper covers these things normally. However, considering the shear volume of damage this truck is getting and prone to and given the history of other trucks, I would definitely call corporate. Stranger things have happened. This is not a simple $200 tail light leaking. This is a really big issue that is occuring often enough to warrant some free fix. It was clearly an issue of incorrect assembly for many.

This is the type of stuff that drove me from GM 20 years ago. It’s frustrating Toyota seems to have slipped in their quality standards.

I believe TSBs are only valid while you are under warranty.

I called corporate and got a claim number. Corporate stated that they can not do anything to help mediate the cost with the dealer until a diagnostic (145$) is complete. I called corporate because a dealer wanted 608$ to fix the window leak.... The current solution is 2 beach towels rolled up behind my headrest. This is Ridiculous.

Worth the fee to get things on paper.

Honestly, if you are still that dedicated to Toyota, trade the damn thing in at night. That leak is a deal breaker as it is so invasive. Probably one of the worst issues. They fixed most of the issues by 2018. You just get the new TSS issues to have updated.

I love Toyota and will have my 2015 until things get straightened out.

What phone number did you call? I'm out of warranty on my 2016 OR as well and this is bull. This is my first (and probably last) Toyota based on the random quality control issues I've had with this truck. I got a $650 repair quote for something that SHOULD NOT be an issue for this you and well maintained a vehicle.

I caulked mine in almost a month ago. We have had plenty of heavy rain and even some hail but my truck is water tight! All it cost me was $7 for the tube of black silicone and 15 minutes. If you zoom in you will see the thin line of caulk that is invisible unless you get really close to it.
I also attached a picture of my Colorado that's been caulked for years and still no issues.
I hope this helps anyone that doesn't want to spend $600 to get "fixed" by the stealership.
